Rio Life Part 2

Well, well, it's back again. (Need clarification? Please see the 'let's see how far we get thread') Except, we've changed our name and changed the girls :) It's now Sigma Zeta Mu and currently we have 7 very psyched girls. (whee!) we just need 5 more to sign on in 3 weeks so we can be ready to roll with the long-drawn-out-process of getting the local recognized by the university. We did a COMPLETE revamp on everything previously done. Well, I'll add more later, but I just realized I need to go to class :)

Wow

Congratulations! Starting an organization take a lot of guts and hard work. Seems like you and your group are going to be fine. Good luck and keep us posted as things progress. One question, are you planning on affiliating with a National? Just curous.

Rio_Kohitsuji 04-25-2003 02:18 PM

Oh yes, we ABSOLUTELY plan to affilate with a Nat'l. *nods*

SATX*APhi 04-25-2003 02:32 PM

Best of luck!

Best of luck TKE209Sweethrt!

Randomly wondering, is your motto 'Esse Quam Videri'? (saw it in your sig) I was talking to some friends of mine in a DPhiE colony and I think that is DPhiE's open motto too!

Rio_Kohitsuji 04-25-2003 07:34 PM

Sweet! I didn't know it was anyone else's motto :) I was searching on the web for all the "open" stuff and came across that, it fits us well so far :) lol!

Oh, tomorrow we're all meeting for our very first well....meeting! I'm really excited! This will be the first time that ALL of use will be together :)

FuzzieAlum 04-25-2003 07:55 PM

Good for you! Keep us posted.

That's so awesome TKE209Sweethrt!

Best of luck!!!! :)

fire1977 04-28-2003 09:31 PM

lol...yes texas*princess that is dphie's motto....it means "to be rather than to seem to be".... it's also on our sisterhood badge.

To quote one of my favorite songs as an undergraduate....
"Esse quam videri, P.E.A.R.L.s
We've got the greatest girls
Oh how we love those dphie's...."

There is a pharmacy fraternity with the same motto. I didn't realize it until I was senior and they had it on the back of one of their shirts.

TKE209sweethrt....Are you still planning on affiliating with, I believe it was, Phi Sigma Sigma? Good luck!! Keep us posted!

Esse Quam Videri is a great motto!!! :D

Check out www.dphie.org to see some more DPhiE info. :)

Phi Sigma Sigma's open motto is Aim High.

Bad news, we didn't have our meeting like we were going to have. I had a family emergency in which I had to cancel, so since I was getting 4 of the girls, we all went ahead and canceled it til sometime this week. But, don't worry, we WILL have it this week :)

Quick question, will anyone "mind" if we use that motto? As you can tell, I'm really anal about intruding on someone else's "stuff".

Oh, it was quits on the Phi Sigma Sigma idea (so far), I really thought it would be in our best interest to stay away from the local glo's who have already been colonized by a national and then went back to local. (So unfortunelty no AST or PSS) Since the locals use their national past while pledging, I really do not want to intrude in anyway on them.

Funny thing, we do have a Chi Omega legacy, she's pushing hard core for them, but dag on, we haven't even acquired our required number yet!

TKE209Sweethrt,
I'm an AST. I know for a fact that AST would love to expand. We don't have any chapter in Ohio. I would be proud to call you sister!

I don't think anyone has any sort of claim on a latin phrase. Besides if you decided to go national your motto would probably change anyway. ;) If it suits your purposes go ahead!

Good luck with your meeting!!! Hope your emergency has resolved itself in a good way!

Thank you EagleChick19! I actually needed that! :) Right now we're getting a crap load of grief from a certain sorority on campus. Oye. Oh, one of the locals (Zeta Theta Chi) was formally AST, and they use alot of AST history in their pledging process. That's why I ruled out AST and PSS, locals had already been colonized by them, but then returned back to local status. :(

Fire1977- Oh, my sister was on call (she's a child-in-crisis social worker I guess you can say), therefore I was on call. She ended up being paged much earlier than what she anticipated, so I had to floor it to her house to take care of a 2 and 3 year old, hehe.

On the phrase, see, this is why I'm wanting everyone to get together. I was placed in charge of getting phrases/mottos/colors/stone/flower/NAME/and everything else. Many do not know some of the basics yet. :( But for you all, here it is:

Name: Sigma Zeta Mu
Symbol: Star and cresent moon
Colors: black, silver, blue (haven't decided on which shade however)
Stone: Blue Star Sapphire (thanks to my bf, he bought me a BEAUTIFUL pair of earrings with this stone, fell in love with it and plus it worked very well with the colors and symbol :) )
Motto: Esse Quam Verdi (to rather than to seem to be)

Well, got to go and call the girls, see when we can all get together.

Ps. I have an idea, in case we do not get the 12 girls required by the end of this semester ( 1 week left) I was thinking to extend out "rushing" through next semester, that way (hopefully) we will have double the required amount if we get passed through AGC in the spring. Therefore, we, in theory, could have our first pledge class in Spring '04. Good idea?

Peaches-n-Cream 04-29-2003 03:44 PM

You should check out wishinhopin's thread in Rush about starting NBO. You might get some ideas about what you need to do and what to expect when starting a sorority. Good luck! :D
