YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tuned in right when she was singing her single "Cry" and my father said she is the worst singer ever. I will admit she sounds much better normally, but that performance was TERRIBLE! She was off key, off pitch, and screaming half of her song.
My dad said that he read an article that stated that she really can't sing and they spend thousands in the recording studio to make her voice sound better than it is. I don't know that I necessarily believe it, but after last night's performance I was disappointed.
Oh well.

The Grammy's SUCKED this year!!!! Not a Norah, otherwise I might have been down, but ... nope. And Em?? I love him, but dayam, that performance left a little to be desired. To be honest, I didn't like most of the live performances, they sucked.. NSync's was okay, and Lance looked hella good for once....Overall, the biggest waste of three hours of my life that has occurred in a while.

The song by John Mayer is 'Your Body Is A Wonderland' and I love him too. The first time I heard him, I could have sworn it was Dave Matthews!
I thought that the Grammys was a little boring this year. No real stand out over the top performances. I love Norah Jones though. I think she deserved all the wins. Cause the other artists couldnt have proved otherwise with last night's performances. especially avril lavigne and faith hill. can we say sucked? i mean faith is great but when I first heard the song 'cry', i was very disappointed.
However, the best performance of the night......COLDPLAY!!! God, I love them. So Amazing and underappreciated. Their new album is incredible!!!!
So if you took out their performance, the grammys would have been a real sleeper.

Agree. They did no justice to the Bee Gees music at all. Too bad.

I thought Simon and Garfunkle doing "The Sounds of Silence" was outstanding -- especially since they haven't performed with each other in years. Showed some real talent -- not special effects. I wish they could have done one more -- Scarborough Fair or Bridge Over Troubled Water -- which could have been magical. Or they could have closed the show as well as opened it.

Wonder why they did it in Madison Square Garden? What an acoustic nightmare! Are the other NYC venues too small? Unbelievable choice. Why not Lincoln Center or Radio City?

No real emcee made for no real pace and structure for the show.

It was nice, however, that a true musician won the most awards.

I was so ticked of that I tuned in too late to hear Simon and Garfunkle. Just for the "moment" of a reunion would have been worth it.

Faith Hill-I love her CDs, but I agree, this was NOT her finest hour.
BTW-what in the HELL was she wearing!!!

OK-I'll give all the (Out of)'Sync -J/J - fans a little bit back-they did sing acapella and that's tough with 5 voices...

BUT THAT NELLY THING!!! WHAT was THAT all about!

The (conservative) talk shows were all over Cheryl Crowe for her "No War" T-shirt.
I was waiting for some big anti war speech. They said there were rumblings of them, but most changed their mind. Did I miss any???

First of all, popular census around the world thinks the Grammys sucked ass. And why were actors at a music award show. . .is it because they basically double as singers too?

John Mayer should have won something. He's had 3 hit singles out and I keep hearing that one stupid song from Norah Jones. Where's the rest of the album singles? I'm definitely ot going to waste money and buy the album because personally, I don't think she's done anything for jazz music. She just made a new sound.

What else? Oh, and I really didn't understand some of the outfits that the performers were wearing. . .but after Eminem's bland song. . .I turned off the TV to watch cable. The Disney channel rocks.

John did win Best Male Vocal Performance for "Your Body is a Wonderland" and he definitely deserved it b/c i think he's amazing!!

I saw him in concert last summer and he's great - he's touring again this summer with Counting Crows, should be a good one

I'm sorry but I cannot stand Norah Jones. I HATE that damn song, and it could be cuz I'm definately not a fan of jazz, but I really think that song gets way too much play. Where are all her other songs? How could she have won best album and all that other crap when artists she was up against have sold millions of records? Even tho she won all those Grammies, until she releases another single and it sky-rockets like her first and only, she will be in a one-hit wonder in my eyes.

And what was up with the last award of the night, when she brought like 8 people on stage with her, and they were saying hi mom and whatever else and acted like it was supposed to be funny? I know some people when they get on stage get a lil nervous, but that was a waste of 5 minutes.

Other than that, I missed most of the show.

Her album has just gone platinum in the u.s. for the forth time. it has sold six million albums world wide. i would have liked someone such as john mayer or michelle branch (who have alot of talent) to have won. if avril or ashanti won, i would have killed myself....well maybe not

Her songs arent exactly radio friendly. it is just not for pop radio. however, i work at starbucks and half the album gets tons of playing time there. I like the album. You do have to be in the mood for that kind of music. it isnt for everyone.

I only got to see a few of the performances so the ones I saw were Nelly's, Faith Hill's, Eminem's, and Norah Jones.
I think Norah Jones did a great job. I don't really like her song or her music but compared to the other performances, I think her's was great.
Nelly's was really bad. I think part of the problem was that Kelly Rowland was wearing these 8 ft. stiletto heels. She couldn't move. You could tell she was having a lot of trouble walking in them. I'm guessing Nelly didn't want to jump all around the stage and just have Kelly standing there because she couldn't move. It just made the performance look bland.
Eminem's was ok. I've seen him do a lot better.
What was up with Faith Hill's performance???? She sounded like a cat in heat. There has never been a live performance of her's that, in my opinion, sounds good. She then had to go and pick a song like 'Cry' which is in a very high octave and requires a really powerful voice. She just couldn't pull it off. I think she should've chosen an easier song or brought the song down an octave. Even Celine Dion, who can actually sing, will sometimes bring her songs down an octave when in concert to prevent the possibility of her not hitting the notes and sounding like she is screeching.

john mayer didn't say he was 16... literally. He said that in the moment he was in right then and there... he was FEELING like a 16 year old boy. I guess a metaphor for feeling excited and overwhelmed all at the same time.

Hey just a little report from the inside-
My dad's a member of NARAS (national academy recording arts and sciences) and everyone at all the after parties had the same comments we did!!
Biggest complaints of the night-
Ashanti's reputation preceded her. Song and setup was too Whitney Houston wannabe.
Faith Hill has no talent, something most people have known for years but she was not someone they wanted to perform in the first place!!! Most people were upset about that.
No host??? I know the economy's bad, but come on....
Norah Jones. Yeah, the Grammy's are supposed to be about quality, so she's one of the very few examples where that was rewarded. But when she got up to accept best album, 5 or 6 people went with her. like, this is this songwriter, this guy produced, this guy was a co=songwriter, etc.....a lot of people at the awards were kind of confused b/c if you think about it, she's almost as packaged as Avril Levigne...I mean, her image and everything is all her, but 4 songwriters for one song??? Playing the piano w/a very generic, repetitive jazz song does not a Grammy winner make.

If Norah Jones is "jazz," it's smooth jazz. That song doesn't contain any improvisation, scatting, or characteristics of true jazz songs. She can't hold a candle to the greats like Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday.

Just another manifest of how "marketing" people have taken over music.

I *loved* Simon & Garfunkel....that started the night off well....because it was downhill after that!

Dustin Hoffman's opening speech made me cringe. It was just bad, bad, bad.....

Avril Levigne was ok. But did she sound weird to anyone else? Like she had an accent or something? Yes, I understand that she's Canadian, but that wasn't a Canadian accent coming through.
