Good point SoCalGirl, it's better to find out damage and report it to insurance now than later and have to explain it. Lil' story: I got rear ended sitting at a dead stop at a red light. We didn't need to call police or anything, but I looked over the exterior of my car, and looked at frame/tires, checked brakes, everything was okay, but I still got woman's number/insurance 'just in case'. However, when I got to the parking garage I went to roll up my window, the pane was broken off the track. Not cosmetic, so I didn't notice it until I had to use it, and then I had to physically guide the window up the track and then there was still .5 in gap where water/car theft thingy could fit in. When I took it to the insurance company Tuesday (happened on a Fri. over holiday weekend), they told me that there was no proof such a thing could happen, and because my car wasn't new, 'such a thing was bound to happen over time' regardless of the fact that some woman did it by hitting me (The collision repar guys said that they see this happen quite frequently, especially in rear end collision where the window is half rolled down (like mine!)) the insurance also asked why now I reported it after all these days. Hello, you weren't open! Since it was under $500 my insurance wouldn't arbitrate with her company so we had to pay for it. Only $90, but if I'd reported it to the police, maybe I wouldn't have had to pay that.
Frame damage can be undetecable to naked eye, but could have an effect on how your car perfoms... but if you do get it checked, make sure they don't tell you it has thousands of dollars worth of damage when it doesn't!
