Andrea,
I would say try some of the cheapie stores like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or Payless. You might find white shoes there.
Or try a bridal shop...they would definitely have white shoes (although that would likely be expensive).
Are you permitted to wear a white dressy sandal at all?
I hope you find your shoes!

white close-toe shoes
I hope you find shoes! I have JUST found 4 pairs of really nice white shoes in my size (also my mom's shoe size!) for $7 per pair on the discount rack of a formal shop.
Also, if you do not mind wearing used clothing, consigment shops and thrift stores also have a great selection of items year-round. My mom found a STUNNING, extremely expensive white dress that looked like new for $12.99 at a thrift store around two weeks ago.

The white dress that I wore at Kappa Convention has been in Zeta Epsilon Chapter for about six years and has gone to every Convention since then. We just pass it around.

I am having the same problem! I went to Payless and yes they do have the oh so fashionable white satin shoes, but to my surprize they cost $37.99! I was not about to pay almost $40 for some not only white but satin shoes at Payless. Target does not have any white dress shoes either. If you are a size 7 good luck because I tried several other stores like Cathy Jean and came up short

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I guess I need to find out if they must be closed toe. GPhiBLtColonel--do you know? I'd much rather wear a nice strappy white sandal but dyeables it may have to be! I actually found a beautiful white dress over the weekend at Dillard's in Better Dresses. It was marked down 60%!!
I like the idea about the Enzo's. I love that brand of shoes. But, I'm not above wearing shoes from Payless either! I'll give an update after I find those elusive white shoes.

In my house, we are allowed to wear white socks or stockings instead of white shoes. Would they let you do that?
OR...you can go to www.discountdance.com and look into ordering white ballet slippers! They can run as low as 12 bucks.

Im with you Carnation
Im with you Carnation on the no white thing. My chapter doesn't require a white dress for any occassion and our school doesn't wear white dresses for bid either. I have no idea what initiation attire is as I haven't gotten that far yet but I asked my pledge mom and she said we never have to wear white dresses unless we want to. But for the white shoes, Id try like everyone else said a bridal shop or payless/rack room type of store - they usually have a wide variety of diferetn seasonsed shoes if that makes any sense. Good luck on finding shoes and congrats on alum initiation!

I had to buy white shoes for my pledging service two weeks ago. I found a pair of white leather-ish slides with a wedge heel on the sale rack for $12.99... I lucked out because I have HUGE feet. These are cute enough to wear again, I think.

JCPenney (store or online) might be a good choice - if you need them for initiation you may need them for other sorority/convention events so you may as well get a decent leather pair if you can. The dyeables, especially the cheap ones tend to have a funny hue to them when they are next to white hose or dresses. You might want to try a store that "older" women frequent like a Life Stride or some local equivalent (you know, the ones that advertise arthritis/diabetic shoes) - I suggest that only because they often carry white leather pumps year round because many of those same customers need them for church affairs year around.

I bought a pair of pure white, never worn Life Stride pumps for sorority/convention events at a thrift store for $2. What a deal.
Naturalizer or Selby probably also have conservative white pumps -- those shoes seem to draw a heavy "older" woman clientele.

I got my white shoes from Payless. They're just the regular pumps... I think they carry them year round (but I was also initiated in Spring).
And as for your question Carnation, yes we have to wear white for initiation.
As for our chapter no matter if it's inititation or just Pin Attire, we must have sleeves on our dresses, we have to wear nylons and slips, and our shoes have to be closed toed. I donno if every chapter is like that... But the chapters in our Division are.
Anyways, Houstonchica Good Luck with finding those shoes!

I checked E-Bay... there are 30 pages of white shoes for sale, many are brand new/still in the box.

We had to get whites also, but we are allowed to wear anything that is white bottoms and and tops. I have a strapless dress I'd gotten on sale at Express! But no shoes, but luckily we were allowed to wear white flip flops or sock-booties, but I'm not sure if this is what we wear to initation as well.
As for finding white shoes, ditto of what people said about bridal stores, or you might also find some on sale racks as summer has just ended.

Initiation tonight!
Hi everyone, my big sis GPhiBLtColonel should be on her way shortly from Atlanta. Tonight is Initiation for the Delta Upsilon chapter of Gamma Phi Beta (UGA) and I am an alumna initiate.
I am very excited and a little nervous, too! I found a pair of strappy white sandals exactly like I wanted at DSW Shoe Warehouse. (That is an awesome shoe store and they have stores all over the country in case you love shoes!!) My dress is a simple sleeveless white sheath style, sort of Audrey-Hepburnish.
There is another woman who will be alumnae initiated with me tonight and of course, I can't forget to mention all of the new pledges at UGA who will also be there.
Thanks for all of your advice with my white shoes saga!
Fraternally,
Andrea
