Kappa Delta Headquarters is referred to as "headquarters" not "nationals."

Also, we refer to student members as "collegians" not "collegiates."

I share Tom's scholarly post, cuz Eric has gone politically correct.

"National" is a kind of ugly short-hand most nationals despise, but just as "frat" lives in the vocabulary of non-members, "national" lives in undergrads and alums forever.

In my other interests, such as youth soccer, youth hockey, and the teachers union, the local people all use "national" as some distant entity which sucks up money, and sends out stupid rules - much as my International Hdqtrs. in Indianapolis does.

And their latest: if my chapter will pledge 25 percent more (and send them several thousand addl. dollars), they'll send the chapter a weenie plaque, and ask them to stand up at some "International Conclave" banquet (if we pay our own way there and pay the Conclave reg. fee).

When referring to my own organization's headquarters, I call them "internationals" because we are an international organization. When generalizing, I try to incorporate both, when I think about it. And I often correct my own sisters when they talk about other organizations and classify them as "international" just because we are; but only if I know the other organization is a national and not international organization. I guess it depends more upon what you were told to refer to the headquarters of your organization when you were a new member...from there, it's more of a hold-over.

Our governing body is called National Headquarters, or "National" for short. The reason is because Delta Zeta is not considered to be an international sorority. No offense intended to any of our Canadian friends, I'm sure.

Just FYI - Delta Zeta IS an international sorority - it has installed 2 collegiate chapters and 1 alumnae chapter in Canada.

Why call ONE governing body "NationalS" (as in plural) when it's only one body? "National" would seem more appropriate if you're not an international group.

My guess would be that "Nationals" is an abbreviation of "National Offices."

We got the whole lecture at Convention this summer. Kappa is an international organization. The proper spoken and written abbreviation is "HQ."

as a Canadian member I say National (without the s) when reffering to national personnel or C.O. (as Angelphisig wrote) for central office when talking about admin stuff....it mildly annoyed me that we do not say International but i got over that...we're a minority and I'm ok with that.

on a rare occasion i may say nationals when reffering to several groups.

as for DZ, my campus still has an active chapter...so even if it's not in the name(like us) they are still technically international.

If I am talking about the actually building I say HQ, but if I am talking about the organization as a whole I say National Organization. I'm not a fan of "nationals" being used, makes it sound strange.
