nationals?
I note several GLO members referring to "nationals"
It is kinda like a slap in the face to those who belong to a GLO with Canadian chapters And why t he 's'? Why not say headquarters or something other than "nat ionals?" DUH |
As a member of a Canadian chapter memeber of Pi Beta Phi, I don't really see it as a slap in the face when I talk about out "headquarters". We all refer to it as our national. It doesn't seem to bother any of us. Although I can't really speak for everyone. I just know that it doesn't bother me. It's just something we say. They changed rush to recruitment and pledges to PNM's, but most of us still use the terms rush and pledge. Are you offended by that?

I call it nationals b/c we're not an international sorority.
I'm not quite sure of why that would be a slap in the face. It's not really proper english or procedure to call it nationals, but many informally do. I use the s i guess b/c it refers to the many people who work for our national headquarters. It's just what we call it. I never call it headquarters. That's just what i say. |
.............I'm from an international sorority...we call it "Headquarters" or the "international headquarters."

I just generally say IHQ just a shortened version of International Headquarters. Sometimes I do slip and say nationals bc that is what we called it when I was in school, even though we were international then to.
|
I also say headquarters or HQ when referring to my org. When I refer to others, I usually use whatever term I hear them use.
|
When going through Frat Ed, I learned that Alpha Gamma Delta went international with the addition of Tau Chapter at the University of Toronto in 1917. She has been International since, and when referring to Headquarters, it has always been International Headquarters.
I met so many of my amazing Canadian sisters at the last Convention, I know that AGD is strong at our Canadian campuses! |
All sororities and fraternities are at least "nationals" (not talking about locals, obviously). Some are "internationals". However, I know that I have no idea off the top of my head who had international chapters and who doesn't.
I think it's just a speech pattern that varies from person to person |
We call our "nationals" C.O. for Central Office, but its sometimes just eaiser to say Nationals so people know what you mean... :)
|
our national headquarters likes to be refered to as "national" not nationalS... bah, technicalities... :)
|
I write it like this so I do not leave anyone out: inter/national no S.
|
I've heard brothers use "national" or "nationals" informally fairly often (we're not international), but as a rule we use the proper name of our national headquarters: "Lyrecrest."
|
Ours is called IHQ. There are four orgs. that make up the International Theta Chi Fraternintiy, INC. or whatever the real long name is. International Head Quarters, The Grand Chapter, National Board of Trustees, and one that changed its name.

Our governing body is called National Headquarters, or "National" for short. The reason is because Delta Zeta is not considered to be an international sorority. No offense intended to any of our Canadian friends, I'm sure. :)
