Some more for you guys:

-If you listen to any sort of 'rap' or similar, but don't listen to Mos Def and Talib Kweli, then you're missing out on about the finest in hip-hop.

-the Dismemberment Plan

-The Slackers - roots reggae/ska band, just amazing music out of the NYC for about a decade.

-the Dropkick Murphys - Boston punk, and that's good.

-the Vandals - jack-off rock at its finest, a must for any fans of blink182-type music (also see: HomeGrown, Slick Shoes, etc)

Here's a few, although judging by the responses some of you may know these bands.

Autopilot Off-Awesome NYC punk band(used to be called Cooter)

Flogging Molly-Irish rock/punk and the best live band EVER!

The Starting Line-Emo/pop-punk along the lines of new found
glory but better

Thrice-hardcore with crazy guitars and great lyrics

Face to Face-one of the godfathers of modern punk and just
a great freakin band

Surprised I've actually heard of most of these bands. One of my really good Pike friends has seen death cab for cutie and dashboard confessionals (before they "broke out"), flogging molly, ec in concert and always shares his musical discoveries with me.

Face to Face played at our annual campus festival last year.

I have to totally agree with you, Flogging Molly is probably the best live band I have seen.

I agree with Saves the Day, the Dismemberment Plan and the Starting Line. Also:

the Roots (actually, come to think of it, while they are more than worthy I'm not sure I'd really like it if they got huge)

the Riverdales (very Ramones-esque)

Jason Mraz (kind of like John Mayer)

the A-Teens (actually, this is cheesy MTV-style pop at its finest -- they started out as an ABBA cover band! -- but for some reason they never caught on . . . unfortunately)

I'm sure there are lots more.

The Traveling Wilburys - an oldie but classic rock at it's best. What else can you say about a super group with Dylan, Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison?

Barton & Sweeney - I think they're from a small town in Missouri.. Not sure what you'd call the music though. Not quite folk singers, not quite county, not quite soft rock. Pretty cool though.

KSig...you have very good taste in music. I love Atmosphere, Mos, and Talib (solo and together as BlackStar).

Sage Francis is amazing. I'm not going to say anything else...just check him out.

Aesop Rock is also one of my favorites.

Eyes Adrift - composed of one of the brothers Kirkwood from the Meat Puppets, Krist Novoselic - bassist from Nirvana, and the drummer from Sublime/Long Beach Dub All Stars...Bud Gaugh is his name.

Betarulz, The Get Up Kids is one of my favorite bands! I just saw them them live about two months ago and it was probably the best show i've been to.

The Fags (swear to god that's their name) - they're a local band from Michigan. Their sound is kinda reminiscent of Weezer. Awesome band

Talking

Ah, live music and local bands.............my favorite subject. I bet I have more then a few that no one has ever heard of. I work on the weekends for a local band doing promotion and merchandising (I'm even getting to design all the new shirts for this ) Here are some of my faves starting out with my "employers" LOL!

The Ugli Stick-from Mobile, AL If you like rock with a side of groove you'll love these guys. They have a wide range of covers from Eminem and Rage Against the Machine to Sade and Prince, you're sure to find something that you'll like. However this is no mere cover band.....they have an original CD "Beatdown" already available. The next CD "with and I" is due out later this fall.
Check them out. There are even a few snippets of "Beatdown" for you to download and listen to. Come the to message board and say hi while you're there!

Bomba Dak- again from Mobile, AL These guys are rock stars in the making. Right now they are on hiatus while creating their debut CD "Drama" produced by Ugli Stick's Brian Graves. They also do covers and originals. Their covers range from Disturbed and Tantric to Billy Idol and other 80's icons. Check out their site as well. Be sure to check out the fans of the week and the gallery. You might just be surprised at who ya see on there......namely ME! Sign the guest book before ya go too!

Last but certainly not least-Bad Charism AKA Bad Chairs-From Ocean Springs, MS
These guys are incredible. They are all under 21 and for a bunch of youg'ins they rock! They even bring some of that great 70's and 60's rock out of the closet and onto the stage. From Rage and Fuel to RHCP and Staind, these guys have got a great thing going and are gonna make it big one day. Just of word of advice ladies, stay away from the guitar player, he belongs to my little sister LOL! Check them out!http://www.badcharism.com

There are about a million more bands that I could name and go into detail about but I'll save it for a later post.
KSig RC, I will say that I HAVE heard of the Dropkick Murphys. PhiDeltUCI, I saw Flogging Molly only a few months ago at SpringFest in Pensacola. They came on after Injected, who also rock!
If you want to know more about my passion for music just PM me!

Love and Rockin'
Sara

PS sorry this was so long I'll step off my soapbox now!
