Does anyone know who the smaller NPC members are? I would imagine that if anyone were to close, it would be a smaller organization.

The smallest NPC group is SDT, with about 50 chapters (half as many as the next smallest). However, like someone else said, sororities face a lot fewer lawsuits and lower risk management costs, so I would be surprised if a sorority went down vs. a fraternity.
Realistically, I know the risks for *someone* to close are there, but ... well, when I was a freshman eight years ago they were predicting a national fraternity would close in the next three years, and I'm still waiting. These things are rumors, folks, and I would take all of them with a grain of salt until you hear a national organization putting out a press release announcing their closure and/or merger.
I would think that if a group was going to close, it would do it quickly. They wouldn't spend months twiddling their thumbs while the rumor mills cranked.
As Mark Twain said, "The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated."

Actually, Theta Phi Alpha has less than 50 also. I think AEPhi has just over 50. ASA has 76, and I think AST has around that many also. PSS and DPE are both under 100. This is active, not all-time chartered.

I hate to see us continue these "possible" rumors about these organizations. We should find out if it is true before reporting the rumor.
Remember, this is the time where men and women are looking for information before recruitment. Why are we positing possible rumors that may hurt our fellow greeks?
Just a thought...

D Phi E will have 85 active chapters after the Fall 2002 semester, and we're also colonizing somewhere in TX.

Someone quoted me in another thread, so I'll quote it back:
176 chapters - Chi Omega
More than 150 chapters - Delta Zeta, Zeta Tau Alpha
More than 130 chapters - Delta Gamma, Alpha Phi, Delta Delta Delta, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Chi Omega
More than 115 chapters - Alpha Omicron Pi, Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Delta, Phi Mu, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta
More than 100 chapters - Gamma Phi Beta, Sigma Kappa, Alpha Gamma Delta, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Alpha Xi Delta, Phi Sigma Sigma
More than 50 chapters - Alpha Sigma Tau, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Epsilon Phi, Delta Phi Epsilon
50 or fewer - Sigma Delta Tau, Theta Phi Alpha
(corrected for inaccurate numbers on PSS)
These numbers could be off by a few, of course.
But size isn't all. What about endowment relative to size? And what about their burn rate? Two nationals each have 75 chapters, say. What if one is opening new chapters fast and furious, running down their capital? If a lawsuit hits them, they could be broke so fast. The other chapter could have the money socked away to weather the storm.
And what about reputation? I don't mean "good" vs. "bad." But some groups have more prominent members than others, and if a PR crisis hits, it might help to have, say, a Bush on your side.

I have noticed that many of the numbers are off so I think we should not repost that post from earlier.
Currently Alpha Gamma Delta has over 115 active chapters with a new colony this fall. Overall, we will be colonizing our 180th chapter this fall.

Just wanted to say that I agree with this statement... this thread is on its way to getting out of hand, and I don't see that it can do any good to have this discussion on here! Maybe a generic thread of "how many active chapters do you have?" or something of that sort, but why debate who the smaller chapters are who might close soon?
Just my $.02 worth.

I think I have tried to count them on your national site, but I got confused. (it doesn't take much)

Sorry if those numbers are off, but I got the information from the websites of the national sororities themselves. I only say they may be off because chapters may have opened or closed since then.

Sorry, I just asked out of curiosity. I didn't want to imply anything. It is interesting to see how many chapters everyone has, though.

I totally agree. A lot of people come to this site to get information about various orgs. and we don't want people misinformed.
