I knew it was only a matter of time til the masses raised their pitchforks and marched around with lit torches and UF_Pike was banned. He had many inflammatory posts, but sometimes he didn't mean to piss everyone off, we just didn't care for his choice of words.

But don't we all know someone like that? Someone who speaks their mind and expects you to do the same? He posted once on the PKA forum that "if he can't be himself among his own brothers, who can he be himself with?" I sympathized, b/c honestly I know that what I post here is not always the whole story.

Only with your own friends can you be truly yourself, I guess. We share some offensive things with each other, but we know where we're coming from and that we're not bad people so we try and understand what is being said before jumping all over them. (Actually, with my very best friends I can say anything I want and I know they would never think less of me.) The thing is, this is the internet and what we post is taken at face value and maybe we have to try harder to see who is saying what before we condemn them.

He was irreverant but real and in some ways reminded me of my own friends who others judged too quickly.

In the real world we can't just do this. We can't just say, "I don't like you, I don't like what you're saying, would you please shut up?" and then OFF them (legally.)

I was just waiting for the day when more people gave him a chance, but I guess that day will never come.

Oy. I guess I missed many of this guy's infamous posts, because the ones I remember reading made me more amused than angry. To me, he didn't come across as rude...just the average smart-arse who liked to get people going. Maybe he did say some things that weren't very nice, I don't know, but I sure got a kick out of reading his posts!

Let me take a moment here to post the Greek Chat forum rules - which all members read and agreed to prior to registering...

Quote:
Registration to this forum is free! We do insist that you abide by the rules and policies detailed below. If you agree to the terms, please press the Agree button at the end of the page. Note: By pressing the button you declare that you are over the age of 13. If you are 13 or under you may not register with this website.

Although the administrators and moderators of GreekChat.com Forums will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author, and neither the owners of GreekChat.com Forums or the developers of this software will be held responsible for the content of any message.

By clicking the Agree button, you warrant that you will not use this BB to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you.

The owners of GreekChat.com Forums have the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason. Please note that advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are inappropriate on this BB.
Now, UF_Pike broke the defamatory, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscense, profane, sexually oriented rule many many times. And of course, I'm not going to deny that so have many of "us" - but we are still here and we know what limits not to cross. UF_Pike did not. He was asked by his brothers to tone it down, by the moderators, and even John himself. He did not follow John's request and thus, was banned.

The goal of Greek Chat is to make this a comfortable and welcoming place to discuss and even debate greek related things - you can debate and disagree without being disrespectful; and UF_Pike most certainly did not do that.

I'm one of those people that chose not to mouth off at UF_Pike everytime he made those disrespecting comments, so you can't call me guilty in being just as bad as he is. And as for the picture thread, he didn't have to go into the "WHAT DO YOU LOOK LIKE?" thread to make a comment about me or any other GCer, he would've done it as soon as someone disagreed with him.

Simply put--RULES ARE RULES....and I'm sick and tired of hearing that "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T READ IT" BS because it's easier said than done. I try to read a thread and what did I find? UF_Pike's posts.

We want to make GC a place for everyone to enjoy, but comments like his aren't acceptable (as stated in the Registration terms). You and I all agreed to accept those terms so we can post here, but if you don't like it, then I'm sorry. Maybe this isn't the place for you.

I don't expect GreekChat to be a utopia where everyone gets along with each other, and frankly UF_Pike wasn't as bad as three other individuals who got their butts exiled a long time ago, but no one deserved to be subjected to his flammatory comments. I believe GC Administration did the right thing by banning him.

In regards to what he's like in person

I know some people have said that UF_Pike is a great guy in person and we just all needed to get to know him, etc. But the fact is that this is an internet discussion board. It doesn't really matter what people are like in person, as the likelihood of any of us meeting many GCers is slim to none. How he represented himself on these boards is all that comes into play here. If he's such a great guy in person, then he shouldn't have used the disgusting language that he did. How many posts did someone simply ask him to tone it down, and he came back with a personal attack?

Maybe some would say that I'm missing out on knowing a great person, but based on the things he said and the kind of language he used to say them, I have zero desire to ever know what he's "really" like. I know enough just by reading his posts. If that wasn't the real him, then he should have thought before posting.

Sorry if that offends anyone, but he offended me.

Question

Question: If you chose to ignore posts by specific GC'ers, what happens when they post new threads? Do you just see the thread and reponses to it, but not anything further from the creator of the thread? Or, do you even see the thread at all?

I'm kinda because I thought you could chose to ignore posts. I don't use this feature (yet) so I don't know how it works.

As far as the banning of UF_Pike goes, I'm with PhiMuNursie. His posts were kinda jerk-offy, but I didn't think for a moment he would be banned or even deserved to be. Seemed to me, he just wanted to stir things up a bit...and that he did. But, what is intolerably offensive to some, may not be to others. Oh well...

@ Dionysus ~ (in my Austin Powers voice) behave... But seriously, I just want to give you a shout out for... well, I'm sure you know. Keep it up!!

About UF_Pike

I'm new to post on here and have recently found out about this site. One of my sisters told me to post on here because Craig (UF_Pike) is on here all the time. She said he's stirring up some mixed emotions on this board. I have read the posts he has made and after knowing him and dating him for 17 months, I thought some of his posts were funny. By knowing Craig (UF_Pike) and reading the posts he has written, I saw the humour in them. I have spoken with him about his "thing" for girls in my sorority. Many of my sisters go out on dates with him, even though I dont like it. So with that said, its not hard to see why he has a thing for my sisters. The two of us have talked and he said he would stop writing negative things about sorority girls. I dont think he should be banned. I am a newcomer to this site so I don't have much say in this. After reading some of the other posts made by individuals on this site, he is not the only one who has said negative things or used vulgar language. If the moderators of this board are going to ban him, then they should also ban the others who say offensive things or use vulgar language. It is not hard to see that there are people on here that don't like him. However, do all of you like everything that everyone else writes on here? None of you are offended by the posts made by others on here? The first to say so is lying. Life is not all peaches and cream ladies and neither are men. He does have an ego problem but it is not entirely his fault. As much as I did not like it, when we would go out he constantly had girls hitting on him. As with any guy, his head swells when it happens. Many of my sisters think he is very cute and it sometimes causes problems in our house when we get together for chapter. Those of you from Gainesville that have been around since there was the old Pi Kappa Alpha chapter, you know that he is just like his brothers from their old chapter. They are all cocky, weight lifting freaks and from south florida. This is the typical attitude of many guys from West Palm, Miami, FT lauderdale and Boca Raton. They are cute but sometimes their egos make them unattractive. I'm not here to make him look good and try to convince the moderators of this board to let him back. I am writing this to help some of you see that just as he made generalizations of girls in certain sororities without knowing them, you are doing the same. Most of you do not know what the guys are like here at UF because you've never been here. He is the typical frat boy. We are all grown ups. If we dont like something someone says, we should ignore it and not get our friends to email the moderators to try and have someone kicked off. I think that is more immature than any post he has made in the past. If we looked at all the posts made by people on here during their entire tenure on this site, I bet we could find something that violated the rules posted by OohTeenyWahine. Why then are not those people banned? If you do something to one then it is only fair to do the same to the others. Here are just a few I saw fighting with UF_Pike and I would say violated the rules stated, SigmaChiGuy ---"Don't let this douchebag fool ya. This more than likely is not him, and he is not a Pike anyway. He has been on here for months stirring up shit."---This is violating the rules., KaBillymac---His use of vulgar language, Shultzz---I don't have to go into detail on him. All three of these boys have violated the rules. I hate to point out other peoples bad side but they have all did the same as UF_Pike. Think about it.

UF_Pike is getting more attention now than before he was banned.
I don't know the guy, but he didn't seem that bad to me. I noticed that in his last few days on GC he actually deleted some of his more controversial posts which demonstrates growth on his part.

I understand the banning, but I gotta agree that when I say he didnt offend me and I found the post amusing and dont think he really deserved to be banned. I have found other post far more offensive honestly. To me it was like he kept going on b/c people were feeding him the reaction that he wanted to get out of them. Shock-value entertainment (i.e Howard Stern-like crap). I took it with a grain of salt and left it. But hey, rules are rules. I still Luv ya Earp, even though we disagree on this

I've never suggested anyone be banned and probably won't. However, this guy came very close.

He seemed to write purely for shock value. There was seldom any logic to his rantings, more normally simple sexist drivel and adolescent comments.

His posts were offensive to women, and frankly, embarassing to many of us men. He wrote and acted like an oversexed middle school student. The lack of respect for others and immaturity in his posts were...well, hard to believe.

He appeared to exhibit the antithesis of the kind of behavior for which fraternity MEN are supposed to strive.

In my estimation, most of the "offensive" posts here on GC are deemed that because a number of people disagree strongly with a point of view or the way something is argued. Sometimes they're offensive, sometimes not. Other times "offensive" posts are simply due to a mistake in writing and/or misunderstood by the offended party or parties.

I don't believe that either of the above were the case with the man in question. I think that he knew he was being offensive, going on with his posts anyway, and sitting back to watch the fireworks.

My feeling is that this ban is justified.

Tom, OTW, and IHE are correct, rules are rules. John and the mods have the right to ban anyone who breaks the rules. Though the non-mods may not always agree.

UF_Pike did not irritate me that much, eventhough I disagreed with some of the things he said. Neither does any other "troublemakers" or controversial members. But, I have to admit, a lot of his posts were or ! However, he and other controversial people DID irritate some. He was not the first and he DEFINATELY as long as this site is up will not be the last to rock the boat. So next time, if someone like UF_Pike, Hatchett, Kerstin, Barbara, Drunknole, VictoriaSecret/VictoriaSecret2/VictoriaSecret3/
VictoriaSecret4/VictoriaSecret5/VictoriaSecret6/
VictoriaSecret7/VictoriaSecret8/VictoriaSecreat9/
VictoriaSecret10/VictoriaSecret11/SableCherub/
SistaRizin/Celestialblue, or me in my pre-Dionysus days, irritates someone IGNORE THEM! Trust ME it works, when you're raising hell, you don't expect to get your a$$ kissed, drama is the goal. If someone is searching for drama and don't get it, they'll leave so fast that your head will spin or get their act together.

True. I should have been banned long ago if thoe rules didnt apply. I think alot goes unoticed here if its not sent right to John. So yeah, the rules apply for me too. Ive thought alot of the bans on here were wrong, and likewise, alot of the stuff ive said on here could have got me banned and were wrong. I guess its all how the natives take it.

According to the Pi Kappa Alpha Chapter at my school, they're supposed to be:

Gentlemen
Scholars
Athletes
Leaders

Don't know the guy, don't know about the lower 3... But no gentleman would talk like that. A poor representation of his founders' intentions.
