1. WHAT SCHOOL DID YOU GET INTIATED AT AND WHAT YEAR?

Theta Omicron Chapter @ Arizona State Univ, Spring 1997

2. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SIGMA KAPPA?
Sigma Kappa was the only sorority on campus I felt I could be myself with, I didn't have to be fake or put on a show. I felt they were women who would like me for who I am and not for what car I drive or the clothes I wear or how I look when I get out of bed in the morning. I found that to be true in my years in the house and even as an alum.

3. WHAT DID YOUR FIRST SET OF LETTERS LOOK LIKE?
My first official block letter shirt was given to me by my mom (big sis) at initiation. It was cream colored with some weird maroon and cream fabric for the letters. It was too big so I didn't really wear it that much.
But I love the letter shirt I gave to my dottie (lil sis) and I have a matching one too; it's a white v-neck fitted tee with navy and yellow (her fav colors) block letters set at a diagonal along one side of the v-neck like the old fashioned monograms from the fifties.

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OF RUSH AND WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY SINCE THEN?
My favorite rush memory was on my pref night. Sigma Kappa served sparkling cidar in flute glasses with fruit frozen in ice cubes. The night was coming to a close and after having a wonderful conversation with my soon to be sister I had a single grape sitting in the bottom of my glass. I really wanted to eat it but I didn't want to be unlady-like and reach into the long flute class for it. As if reading my mind, my soon to be sister said, "I know you want that grape, just reach in and get it." It may sound silly but that's probably one of the reasons I put Sigma Kappa first that night.

There are too many memories to just choose one favorite. The fraternity parties, the formals, the sisterhood retreats, the philanthropies, initiations, serenading, skit nights, road trips, socials, winning awards, etc. But I think my best memories are of just sitting on the porch late at night and talking with my sisters about anything and everything and really getting to know them and laughing about stuff into all hours of the night.

1) Penn State, Theta Psi Fall 2000 baby!

2) WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SIGMA KAPPA?
Partly because I am a super legacy. My mom, her 2 sisters, my grandma and my grandma's sister are all Sig Kaps. At different schools too! Anyway, during rush I had my eye on them from the beginning. The girls had a lot of the same interests as me, and most importantly many of the girls had traveled a lot. That was important to me because I went to high school overseas, and my parents still live overseas. So people who had knowledge of the world and knew what I was talking about was important to me. I suicided Sigma Kappa because I was cut from my other top choices, so if I wasn't a Sigma Kappa I didn't want to be greek.

3. WHAT DID YOUR FIRST SET OF LETTERS LOOK LIKE?
My first "full frontals" other people call them blocks, I got from my big during big/little week. They were horrid, a coral pink shirt with blue flowered letters, and a hunter green shirt with plaid letters. They'd been passed down since who knows when so they were well worn. The ones I wear, I got from my g'ma and it's a navy blue sweat shirt with maroon letters outlined in white.

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OF RUSH AND WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY SINCE THEN?
My favorite rush memory was pref nite. The girls singing and stuff. I just felt really special that nite, and that they really wanted me.

My favorite memory since then has to be Homecoming 2000 with the Gentlemen of the Kappa Alpha Order. We had sooooooooo much fun building the float, saving the spot for the parade, the champagne socail with the alums. But I also love living on the floor and like harmony said, the weekend recaps over brunch and just all the silly stuff we do!

Cool

Gamma Beta-Western Michigan University
Initiated fall 2001 (actually jan 2002)
I chose Sigma Kappa for many reasons, first being that when I went through rush the second I walked in I didn't want to leave at all. But with rush I knew that everything wasnt what it seemed, I wanted to know for sure that I was going to join a house that had girls who shared my morals. My boyfriends cousin who I had become good friends with was an active member, I knew that she wouldn't be involved with anything I didn't like. She sat t hrough bid night waiting for me to announce who I had chosen. I know she would have been happy with my second choice but now I am so happy I made my decision, now were sisters and we have rooms next to eachother. She didn't persuade me at all, there was no need for persuasion I loved all the girls I met!!
My first letters were a cute grey baby t, v-neck shirt with maroon background and black and white zebra print in the middle.
My favorite memory from rush was bid day all the rushees were told to meet back at the Bronco Mall (which is like a union) after pref party where we all made our final decisions, the entire rest of the day I was so nervous, when the time came to meet back at the Bronco mall we were told to go into this huge room and sit down with our Rho Chi groups our Rho Chis handed out our bids and made us sit on them. The President, VP of Recruitment and Pledge Ed from all the houses were present with boxes of t-shirts. After they made us wait a little while they finally counted to three and everyone ripped open their envelopes when I saw the invitation I was soo excited I started to cry. I ran over to the Sigmas and hugged each one of them. I was given my bid day t-shirt and met some of my new pledge sisters before we were told to cover up our shirts with sweatshirts and meet with our groups again. Our Rho Chis drove us to the football stadium where every sister in every chapter were eagerly awaiting each pledges annocement. We got into line on the 50 yard line, said our names and at the count of three ripped off our sweatshirts to reveal the house we chose. The Sigmas ran out and tackled me and carried me back into the bleachers to wait for more of my pledge sisters. When we all were together our new sisters took us to the parking lot where they had decorated their cars. They opened up the back of some pick-up trucks and piled my pledge sisters and I into the beds. All the chapters line up their cars and start a parade through campus to Fraternity village where all the Fraternity guys are outside waiting with hoses and buckets of water. It was the most fun I had ever had, we came back completely soaked, but our heart sisters quickly dressed us up in thier nice warm clothes and we bonded all night!!!

I got my first block letters during big/little sis week which were a light blue flower print on a white T-Shirt.

I was initiated at Ball State University on Nov. 9, 2002 (Founder's Day!!!)
I chose Sigma Kappa because ever since my Big sis had gotten her bid, she had been rushing me. I met a lot of the girls and I knew that I belonged.
A cheesey purple paid type, but it really is a comfortable sweater.

I didn't go through rush, but my favorite memory was when I recieved my bid. I was doing a program with my floor (I was an RA). THey cam into the hall singing and making me feel very special.
