Controlling an unruly but popular brother

Something else to consider...if you're structured similar to most other GLO's - if you are elected President...this guy, IF elected VP, would take your place should circumstances warrant you stepping down....

I would make that part of your positive campaign...reminding members that if, God forbid, something happens to you, who is the best brother for the #2 job?

Funny, I gave orders, often phrased as requests to people in chapter quite a bit. lol. Sigh.

Requests are good. Giving orders sounds like you're in the military or that you're dealing with children.

There is not a President on this Board that probably doesn't think his/her chapter members are like children at times lol . . .

The trick is to not let them know you think that way . . .!

I apologize for my poor selection of words. I make every attempt to avoid ordering people around like a miltary sergeant would. I feel that I make every attempt to be positive and promote cooperation among the brothers. My aim is to have the fraternity be ran as the best non-profit business organization out there.

I am also sorry for using a sole "7am event" as an example for his behavior. We do have many more events than these, and for the most part are organized more flexibly. That doesn't excuse a brother from being outspoken about being reckless and immature, and still, ironically, be considered for a position that is supposed to run the fraternity away from harmful activities and promote wisdom of character.

Perhaps I am being closed minded about this. Perhaps I am being short sighted. But when I weigh the fact that I enjoyed roommating with him 2 years ago, rushing and pledging together, being initiated together, first thinking of him as an ideal candidate because of our history, then dropping the blinders and open my eyes to his actions and feeling disgust at what he's been doing lately and getting away with it, something's seriously wrong.

Anyway, it looks like it's all becoming moot now. I guess I lucked out that this very brother doesn't look like he'll even have the grades to be an officer. Ouch! That sucks....
