At Penn State I believe we have 55 IFC fraternities and 20 Panhellenic sororities. We have 8 BGLOs and 1 latino covered by the NPHC and I a ridiculous # of business, honors, local, etc greek orgs.

My school pales in comparison to PSU, but oh well.
2 NPC sororities
4 NIC fraternities
3 local fraternities (formerly national, but lost charters due to various reasons)
2 national co-ed societies
2 NPHC sororities (part of citywide chapters)
2 NPHC fraternities (part of citywide chapters)
2 Latina sororities
2 Latino fraternities
So, Greek life, but not residential Greek life, is pretty big where I go to school.

When I was there--its different now-- U of Southern Cal had about 14 sororities and about 17 fraternities, and, if I remember correctly, 2 NPHC sororities and at least 1 NHPC fraternity.
NPC Sororities were:
Chi Omega
Delta Gamma
Kappa Alpha Theta
Pi Beta Phi
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Delta Delta Delta
Gamma Phi Beta
Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Phi
Alpha Delta Pi
Sigma Kappa
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Episilon Phi
Alpha Gamma Delta
--AEPhi, Chi O, Sigma Kappa, AOPi and AGD are no longer there.
AGD and AOPi left in the late 80's, the rest in the mid 90's, for a variety of reasons, usually quota problems, a few academic problems, greek system at SC was very competitive--missing quota for a couple years in a row could be a death sentence for a sorority, not keeping house GPA average at 3.0 or higher put a lot of pressure on members.
For example, Sigma Kappa came on in the fall of 88 and I'm not sure when they left, but it wasn't too much more than 5 or 6 years later. My house, Chi O, had been there since 1940 and when I graduated in 91, we were at quota --which was usually about 120 --but 5 years later--the chapter was struggling with 45 members and closed.
IFC Fraternities included:
Sigma Chi, ATO, LXA, Kappa Sigma, Sig Ep, Sigma Pi, TKE, Delta Tau Delta, Beta, SAM, Phi Delta Theta, KA, Delta Chi, Theta Xi, Chi Phi, FIJI, Pi Psi, Sigma Nu...that's all I remember.

Hey KayDee...I'm at UM-Dearborn so I totally know what you're talking about with the whole commuter school thing. Total at UM-D is 45, and there's only one sorority that has reached that. We only have 4 known sororities, and 3 fraternities:
Phi Mu
Delta Phi Epsilon
Phi Sigma Sigma
Alpha Omega Epsilon (engineering, not social)
Delta Sigma Phi
Tau Kappa Epsilon
Theta Tau (engineering)
There are also a few other black GLO's, but they really don't come around so no one knows who they are. We used to have Sig Ep, but I guess they got shut down.
Oh yeah...I know one of ur sisters..Christina

It's not who always wins, it's who always gets respect...Phi Mu Rocks!!!

amycat,
I won't put their full names, but my chi-o friend who graduated from USC in 89 is Tina V. and the one who graduated in 88 is Allison F. Sound familiar at all? I've known both of them for ages. We went to high school together. (BHHS)
It's such a coincidence that you know people who went of U of Maryland. Were these guys in frats?
I'm dying to find out if I know them and if you know my friends!

Leslie, email me. its in my profile. They were graduating as I was pledging and we had several Tinas and Allisons (and Amys, ha ha).
