OK, how bout this: Check in Thursday night, with options for check-out Saturday night and Sunday afternoon? Or should Friday be the optional day? Hmmm. When I talk with the people at conference services, I'll ask them what's commonly done- they do this for a living, I'm sure they know best.

I need to know ASAP if any chapters are interesting in attending. Right now I'm saying it will be July or early August. I need an estimate on attendance so we can figure out how much space we'll need, so if you're interested, please let me know NOW.

I think that a conference would be a wonderful thing. Also I do appreciate someone taking the initaieve... I have a couple of ideas for workshop. Promotions( how to promote and advertise your orginization) Choregoraphy( where you learn basic steps to take back with you and elobarate on.
Also you might want at least one delegate from each orginization to participate in a workshop

Update: UMass Greek Affairs has agreed to sponsor the conference, I have a meeting with them tomorrow morning. The running estimate on the price is $100 a person. It breaks down like this:
Lodging: $36 (double rooms in a hall of residence)
Food: $48 (8 meals in the dining commons)
Conference fee: $6 (flat fee charged by the University)
Room fee (est.): $10 (this is determined by the number of people who attend. It's the amount they're charging us for using conference rooms/the number of people coming.)
You also need to figure in the cost necessary to get to Amherst (the nearest airport is Bradley Int'l in Hartford, CT; the nearest bus stop is on campus; the nearest Amtrak station is on Main Street, about two miles from campus), and any money you'll want to spend while you're here.
I'll have the date and a more exact price nailed down the middle of next week.

I'm gonna email this post to my sorority sisters back home and see what they think about it.....I'll get them to email me (or post themselves) after our next meeting...which I think is Sunday. They don't have far to travel (from Nova Scotia) and I'm sure some of them would be interested in a local's convention...I know I am (but unfortunately I don't think I can go......I'm taking summer classes....and flying home to NS in August for my parent's 25th anniversary party! )

So cool
This sounds like so much fun. I will pass this information onto the new alumni and the active sisters of Kappa Gamma Chi. We're a local in Boston, so I am sure there would be a lot of girls interested in this!!!!

Hey--
I'm really impressed--that sounds really inexpensive. I was wonding what would happen to the price if we tried to include a banquet...just a thought, but it might be nice to have one formal event on the convention agenda...I don't know how that would be handled--just a thought.
OnePlus69is70, I know you've been doing a lot of running around and planning--is there anything that could be done by someone else so the entire burden isn't on you?
Also, I've been wondering how we're going to get the word out about this--since we don't have a network like a national, how are we going to let a potentially interested local in--delaware, maybe--know about this. I know localsororities has that website, but that doesn't include fraternities...or will we just go off of the greekchat post?
Anyhow, just some thoughts--good luck on midterms everyone!

Don't sweat it- I'm a Linguistics major, I don't have that much work to do. I have my brothers doing a lot of run-around work, and the other local here, IGU is going to do some work. When I need help with something, I'll make it very clear- when it comes time to line up workshops, I'll start needing help.
I'm going to throw up a web site with all the details and contact info when I'm done, and I'm going to have our Office of Greek Affairs contact their equivalent at other schools. That should be enough to get things rolling.
As for a formal banquet, it can be done. I'll have a chat with the woman at the campus center, and see what it would cost.

the good word
I had my meeting with our programming director. These are the details we have down now. Please mull it over and let me know what you're thinking.:
-When: Either July 26-27 or 19-20 (We're confirming the date on Wednesday when I talked with the campus center manager)
-Where: UMass Amherst ( www.umass.edu)
-What: Workshops on many topics- look at the previous posts. (If you or your alumni want to present a workshop, let me know)
-Who: Any and all unaffiliated GLO's. Right now we're saying a limit of 10 participants per group. If it looks like the conference is going to get too big for the space alloted, we may lower that number. (This is why it's important to contact me if you're interested, so we can get an accurate count of interested groups).
-How much: Probably about $100, plus travel expenses. To estimate that: by plane, check Bradley Int'l in Hartford, by train, the Amtrak station in Amherst, by bus, the U of M Amherst bus station (NOT the Amherst, MA station- it's in downtown, not on campus).
-Schedule:
Friday: Arrive in the morning. Workshops start after lunch, go until dinner. After dinner, we'll have planned a set of activities (thinking of throwing open one of the gyms), and there will be the attractions of Amherst and Northampton (both great spots for bars, clubs, and arts).
Saturday: Breakfast. Workshops start at noon. That night, dinner-dance-talent show thing (we're still working on the idea, I really need some sorority input here).
Sunday: Breakfast, leave.

Hey all- problem came up. I talked to the people at the conference center, they said every weekend this summer is already booked. Sorry all. We'll try to reschedule for next semester some time.

Awww.....that sucks! I know my sisters were chatting about it and were seriously considering a road trip to the USA...I even had my husband almost convinced to let me fly there to meet up with them!
Maybe next summer though! Thanks for trying!

Hello.
I am interested in being a presenter if the conference ever happens (even if its 2003)
I was in a local throughout college that went National after I already graduated. I got initated into the national group and continue to volunteer today. I do lots of rush stuff which I was always a challenge when we were a local.
Anyways I will keep watching to see what happens...

It's too bad that didn't work out. I was really looking forward to networking with all you other locals. I was looking online for convention centers in nyc...but it's hugely expensive, so I don't know how well that would go over. I'm still definitely thinking about this. I don't want to call it over yet

I was wondering
I was kind of concern at the fact that my local greeks have not been communicating with me or others out there who might be concern about the convention that is coming up soon. I really want to know is there going to still be a convention, has the location been change if so can some one please email me back or send a repsons to the message if you like. Even though were are down in michigan we still feel the need to interact with the other local greeks nation wide and to get ideas for our fraternity and see what we can do to get our organization to prosper. Well i don't want it to sound like i'm complaining but i'm kind of hurt at the fact that were're not being included at all in the process of the program it's self. May you all contiune to do great things on your campuses and don't forget about us little people. GOD Bless you all and hope to hear from somone soon.....
