Maybe I am just bitchy and prematurely geriatric, but it seems like I have had issues with just about EVERY neighbor I've had. There really is nothing worse, in my opinion, than having the precious few hours you have to relax/study/be at home ruined by impolite, psycho, oversexed, lazy loud ass, obnoxious, trashy roommates. So, I feel complete empathy for any of you who've had a nightmarish experience.

My first terrible experience started in college, where my roommate and I just about committed a double homicide that year. I lived in a co-ed dorm (ya, that was fun...and YES, we even had a co-ed bathroom. Two words: P. U. ) and naturally we had the worlds biggest partiers next to us. It was pretty cool at first, or so I thought, because I was able to meet a lot of cool people during orientation and the first few weeks of school. We just naturally thought that these guys would tone it down when academics started to sink in. Um..well, that didn't happen. Let me just tell you about one party they had (ON A WEDNESDAY NIGHT).
The hall outside our rooms smelled like the biggest doobie known to man, and was so filled with smoke, I could barely see, muchless breathe. People were leaning on our doors and pounding on walls. They played total butt-rock music, which made the walls shake. I felt bad because my poor roomie had her bed right up next to the dividing wall. They were total delinquents.
Well, never one to bitch and not do something diplomatic about it, I went next door and asked them nicely to turn down the music, and at least keep in in their room and maybe tone it down by 1am...well, apparently one of their drunken high party guests didn't like that, and decided to throw a beer bottle at my head. Let's just say, that's when I decided to take matters into my own hands. My roommate and I called not only the campus cops (who usually didn't do anything because they didn't want the place to look bad if a ton of students were reported for MIP, etc.) but also called the REAL cops. So, when the cops show up to bust their asses, someone apparently offers one of the cops a beer - oh yes, a beer - DUMB ASSES. Long story short, I heard the next day that basically everyone in the room was busted for underage drinking and a few more got nailed for the green stuff. I was pretty afraid of retaliation, but lucky for me the cops told them something about being able to hear the party from the street, blah blah blah. Needless to say, once the parents of these 2 guys found out, guess who was moved to the Substance Free dorm with the rest of the candy asses?? Too bad it was almost the end of the year anyway.

Cool

Have you tried getting a broomstick and tapping it on the ceiling?

Ha ha...well, that's a fine idea, other than the fact that most of the time, the noise makers are too clueless to pick up on that. At least, that's my experience.

And if the tapping doesn't do it, I can think of a few other things you could do with that broomstick that might be more effective!!!!!

HA HA...Erika...not a bad idea. I will keep a broom around just in case my current neighbors start acting up.

I've had the Neighbors From Hell before also, so I can totally empathize with all of you who have posted nightmarish stories so far!

Right now, I live in a condo, so things are much better. But there are still annoying neighbors with whom I have to contend. One guy, 30-something and jobless whose parents pay his monthly house payments and living expenses , bothers me and my next-door-neighbor at least twice a day. He usually comes up with some stupid excuse like needing to borrow saran wrap in order to get in the door.

Then, just when we've handed him the requested item and shooed him to the door, thinking that we've got him out of the way for a while, the leech returns to bring us a "Thank you" bottle of Zima. It's quite obvious that the drink is just another excuse to come by and invite himself in for a while, and since it's become a daily occurence both I and my NDN have gotten extremely tired of Annoying Guy knocking on our doors all the time.

It's gotten to the point where neither I nor my NDN will answer our doors if we see him through the peephole. My NDN even got caller ID so that she could screen her calls, because he would knock, not get an answer at the door, and then go back to his place and call to see if she was home!

Whenever we come back from work or running errands, we pass by his condo on the way to ours as quickly and quietly as possible so that he won't know that we're home. There's just something about him that gives us the creeps. I'm sure some of you can relate to that, right?

Anyway, I know that's a minor story compared to some of y'all's but I felt like sharing.

That is so pathetic he's in his 30's and living off his parents!

AlphaGam,

I agree! This guy is definitely stalker-material. Oh, did I mention that he's under psychiatric care and takes anti-depressants? We're afraid to say anything to him about his behavior because we're scared he might just lose it one day. He's a big guy and we're pretty small girls in comparison. Kind of scary when you think about it.

Two rail thin girls live above me but you would never know it by the noise they make. It always sounds like there moving furniture when they come in at night. For some odd reason when they bring a guy home it’s not as loud as just their normal day-to-day routine. I have never been driven to the point of complaining but the other night at 3:40 A.M. one of them felt the need to play her stereo. I just cranked mine up for a minute and then turned it off, they got the point and turned theirs down. Oh well I am sure it sucks to live above me as well I am always loud coming in at night and today when I was making lunch for some reason the process of boiling water set off the smoke alarm. Well at least my alarm clock is loud enough to make the stomp on the floor when I don’t wake up fast enough to get to it in a timely fashion. Sucks for them that I have 8:00 A.M. classes.

/edit: silly typos

If they are going to be noisy during they day I will make sure to make just as much noise back like turning the tv for revenge. They won't be civil about it neither will I.
Take care of the situation right away by either calling the cops for a noise complaint or talk to the landlord about it.

Ok, I don't think anyone should be bothered every single night to the point where they cannot sleep study etc., but it is college and people are going to have a party every now and then. I live upstairs and Pikas live below me. They have a party every single night. They have HOUSE speakers around their entire apartment that shakes our floors. Being the good sport that I am, I just go down and party with them. If you can't beat em, join em!!!! I guess that is just good ole' southern hospitality for ya.
