Was this the chapter that you put on your bid card or the one that you did not?

Should I just tell them what I'm telling the other chapter, that it just didn't work out for me last semester or should I bring it up?
They know. Don't bring it up.

It's the one I did put on my pref card. Not all of them know, mostly only the people I know already. I don't know if our recruitment is different but for the most part (at least the impression I get since I have now gone to two COB events), people that didn't rush me last semester don't know anything about it and have been asking. I haven't gone to the one that I put on my pref card (which I really like and think I hopefully can get a bid for since I did go to their preference) so I just don't know what to tell them.

Well, yes, individual members haven't memorized the stats on every PNM: GPA/year in school/prior recruitment results. That's just not feasible. However, as a chapter, they are generally aware of who you are since you preffed them so recently. Clearly, they really liked you in the fall, so your name is probably on their minds now that you're coming back. You can certainly utilize your contacts at that sorority to express to the chapter that you SIP'd after prefs and they remain your first choice. Don't be a psycho about it, but if you have a friend in the chapter, ask her to put in a good word. If there's an alumna who can send in a recommendation to the sorority, she can also mention this.

If someone at the sorority you SIP'd asks at COB, "Why didn't you rush in the fall," you can say that you did, and ABC was your top choice after prefs. Say although "things didn't work out" as you hoped, you remain interested in the sorority and you are excited for an opportunity to participate in Spring Recruitment. Then, change the subject by asking about their experience with the sorority and keep the conversation moving along.

It's like going for a job interview. It's a very good thing to let them know your level of interest. You want to represent yourself in the most favorable light possible. Don't dwell on not receiving a bid in the fall and do your best to make a great series of first impressions.

Thanks so much for the advice! Do you have to be an alumna to write a recommendation? One of my best friends is in the same sorority in another state and she mentioned last semester that she should've written one. Could she do that?

It depends on the sorority. Alumnae typically write them, but some sororities allow collegiate members from other schools to write them and send them to the school you're rushing at. Call her and ask her to write you a rec if she is able or to hook you up an alumna who can.

I just wanted to update you all after rush. I am excited to join my first choice chapter in this semester's rush (it was my number two last semester). Your advice was very helpful so thank you all so much!
