wow. so after being told no, and it's against the rules (me doing informal recruitment), I asked to be shown where it says that the one year rule applied to me, I recieved an email starting with this:
"I spoke with our NPC Area Advisor about your situation and she made the decision to let you know that you may participate in informal recruitment this fall. "
No, she didn't make a decision to let me do anything. It was stated in the rules, which looked like they wern't being followed. And this is after already being told that informal recruitment has ended. It really makes me think that I could have had a better opportunity to be greek at one of the other colleges I really wished to go to.
I'm going to take a break from worrying about the greek community, and *maybe* decide to do spring informal recruitment. Anyways that is my update on the situation. Thank you all for your help, I hope you have a wonderful semester/ fall. =)

Sounds like someone made a big mistake and doesn't want to admit it.

Exactly. There are so many ways you can say I made a mistake; just pick one. I'm glad they wilted under your pressure, and best of luck with your informal rush!

I doubt if it's the rank and file of the Greek community who is making things hard, rather, just as AOII Angel said, people in charge of rush who don't want to admit they're wrong when they are wrong. If you have an opportunity to join this fall that sounds promising and you want to do it, don't pass it up just because of a few dickheads.

You're absolutely correct. The NPC Area Advisor didn't make a special exception for you. The Panhellenic Advisor just didn't want to make it sound like she told you the wrong information.
Don't let the Panhellenic advisor turn you off to Greek life at your school. There are bound to be idiots anywhere. You won't be dealing with the Panhellenic advisor much unless you become Chapter President. What matters is the women in the chapters. Your school has a lot of Greek history and is a great place to be greek. Don't let the Panhellenic advisor dissuade you from pursuing any opportunities this semester.
