Thanks for the advice! i just double checked my schedule, and it turns out that if i get invited back to 3 sororities for pref (crossing my fingers, but im just hoping i get an invite from one that fits! :P) i will have about 40 minutes to get from class, to pref! agh! oh well, ill make sure to get ready before hand, and then just touch up before, throw my dress on and RUN! (getting ready in a bathroom is sounding better and better ) anyways, thank everyone again for the awesome advice. Ive been reading all of the threads on here and its so awesome to see how supportive all of the GC ladies are! i really appreciate all of your help

We really encourage the girls going through to never go "suicide". Going suicide is where you choose only one sorority you'd like to be in. Rank the sororities that you've been invited back to as you see fit. That way you'll be more likely to get something you feel you want to be a part of even if it's not your first choice.

DO NOT trust a girl that says "skip formal recruitment & go through open". One of the sororities on my campus is notorious for rushing girls like this. 9 times out of 10, they dont even pick the girl. They do it because they dont want the girl to be offered a bid to any other sorority.

Read everything possible on each sorority & look to see if they have a website pertaining to the chapter at your school. This helped me greatly when I was rushing. It made me more familiar with what they were like & what they were all about.

Dont put yourself in a bind where you have to rush through getting ready. Allow yourself enough time. You may put something on & decide you hate it & want to spend another 30 minutes looking for something to wear [happens to me all the time lol]. If you're rushing to get ready, you'll become more flustered & nervous than you already are. Take your time!

Most importantly of all, be yourself. When I was going though, I found that I could really act more like myself around the sorority I'm in now than the one I had thought I really wanted. What I wanted out of my sorority was to be accepted for who I am & not what I'm not. Ask yourself, "is this a place where I could look like crap & still feel at home" because I'm going to be totally honest, during recruitment when we're up early early early at our school to decorate, most of us just rolled out of bed & are looking pretty rough. We're allowed time to go home & get ready, so looking rough in the morning is no surprise recruitment week. If you feel that you have to be cookie cutter perfect all the time, chances are that you wont be comfortable & you may even regret your decision.

I hope you have a great experience with rush & find a new home within the sorority you choose!

I'm nervous too! Something that helped me out (I'm a pnm, not a sorority member) was checking out a book in the library about small talk. I know that sounds pretty stupid, because making small talk isn't exactly the hardest thing in the world, but it helped at least calm my nerves, being able to actually be proactive about the situation. Good luck (to both of us)!!

Nolesgirl, I disagree. Being good at small talk is a craft that must be honed. When you're good at it you can talk about absolutely nothing and seem like the smartest, most charming girl in the room. If not, well, the opposite can seem true. If you can come up with the name of the book, I think some girls could really benefit from it.

Insider information: The chapters are JUST as nervous and excited. They really do want you to love them. I wish I had've known when I rushed that the girl who I was talking to was just as nervous as I was!
