Prepare the best you can, ignore the gossip and read the stickies in this forum.

If you get cut heavily, don't drop! Stay with it. That house you think is horrible on day one might seem like a perfectly good option in September when you have no sorority at all.

You'll be more successful if you remember you are shopping for friends, not status or a physical structure. The goal is to find a sisterhood, not figure out which house is best and then trying to get into that one.

Get plenty of sleep, stay hydrated, try to relax, and keep notes!

Great advice! And staying well rested and hydrated is also really great.
(Now, I'm assuming you're going through at UF? - If so, keep in mind that it will overlap with your first two days of classes. That being said: don't skip your classes!! I know you may hear that the first day is pointless, but if you miss it, you may actually miss something very important!!)

I could go on all day with pieces of advice for Recruitment at UF, but I spare everyone the huge post. If you would like to hear more from me (again, assuming you are going to UF from your username), PM me!

Yep! And for the love of all things holy stay OFF those stupid websites that rank sorority chapters. Useless, usually false, and basically a load of crap.

Thank you everyone for the awesome advice! You did help calm my nerves a bit, but im still SO excited! i cant wait for fall!!! :)

KSUViolet06: Thanks for the advice! ive been scouring this site like crazy lookin for tips, and it is SO helpful

DubaiSis: I get what you mean! I have to figure that if a house cuts me, its because it wasnt the right fit, but it only takes one! :)

UFgatorLove: I know! i was so worried that i would have a class that would overlap, but my schedule shows that my last class before pref ends at 5 (hopefully it will give me enough time to get ready!!!) Thank you SO much for your advice :) and i will definitely PM you if i have extra questions

FleurGirl: I know! i was on them before i found this site, and after looking at all of the sororities, i noticed that most people posted the same negative comment on almost every sorority (hmmmmm  ) lol

and if you look at those sites, the same sorority will have similar comments at different schools, and there is NO WAY that the "ABC" chapter at Old State U. will be the same as the "ABC" chapter at Commuter U., or University of State, or Founders U. glad you figured it out!

That's how it is for me & Bid Day! I'm just thinking of wearing my dress to class and packing my makeup with me. If your hair does what you want nicely, you can do it before class, too! Certainly makes the time crunch much easier!!!

DubaiSis 07-19-2011 01:21 AM

It sucks that you have to have your head in two places. Just do your best. The thought of showing up to class in a Preference dress is cracking me up, but she's right; if it's the difference between being ready and not being ready, go for it.

Gatorgirl729 07-19-2011 09:48 PM

UFgatorLove: great idea!

DubaiSis: Hey it might even be a conversation starter! lol :)

I would get completely ready - hair, makeup, jewelry, accessories, etc. before class so all you need to do is put on your dress and heels. I would bring it with you so just in case you are running late you can just change in a bathroom (and bring makeup/hair stuff for touchups), and if you have enough time you can go home and change. :)
