This would be a more appropriate question to ask the brothers of the house you want to get a bid at. No one here knows.
Is pledging typically more difficult in the South? Yep. Does it often include hazing? It does. Will the hazing make you dead? Probably not.
You can probably find a house which doesn't haze. You just have to be up front about your expectations. Just let them know that if they ask you to do anything which conflicts with your values, you're going to walk. Be prepared for a fair bit of rejection though.
