I would say study abroad. I was tapped to be Chapter President right before I was to go abroad. Needless to say, I chose to go abroad and had the time of my life. It solidified what I wanted to do career-wise (which I'm doing right now), and I made friends who I'm still in touch with today. The chapter ran fine without me.

At my college, junior year was the only time you could go. I don't know if that's true for the OP's school, but it's worth a consideration.

Study abroad. Maybe talk to another brother you think would be more qualified to run to see if he might be interested?
Studying abroad will be an experience unlike any other and something you will always remember. If you have the means to do it, do it!

I think I'm the only one on the other side of the fence. I think you should do what's best for you. But I can tell you personally, I not only loved being VP Recruitment for my chapter but I learned soooooo much about myself. I learned how to handle pressure, different opinions, how to delegate efficiently and count less other traits that I know will help immensely in my future goals. It was an amazing experience that I gained so much more from than just new sisters. I definitely think you should take the others advice and think about what you will remember 20 years from now.

Well, I'm with pretty much everyone - I'm abroad right now and I already know it's going to be my best college experience and the best decision I could've possibly made. It's seriously incredible and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
