Yes, blue vest is the recruitment counselor.

I certainly didn't mean the girls were going Snooki on us...I think they look more like normal college women (most of them) and less like socialites on the page of a NY magazine. I saw a few outfits that were too short, too tight, or too formal for early rounds, but most of them looked like normal girls in sundresses rather than like little fashion models who'd spent hours on hair and makeup and a fortune on clothing. That is a good thing!

ETA: Yeah, I went back and looked at the faces, and they look more relaxed than in 2007-2009. Good for them.

LOL. I saw several of those girls with the vests in one of the pictures so they must be the Rho Chi leaders. I

Hahaha to those Rho Chi vests. "Welcome to Walmart! Have you seen all my pieces of flair??!!" But, if you have to wear it, you might as well have fun with it.

And, as usual, I see a few PNM's that look like they need to be fed.

I also find it interesting to see how some PNM's look at each other.

Good luck to all at UGA.

Wow, all the girls look so hot and tired. Many girls were yawning! I agree that these look more like normal girls going through recruitment, rather than the usual UGA model parade. Maybe the heat has melted off their make up and flattened out their hair? Or it is just too hot to care.

The day starts early at UGA....6 am! And it's something like 112 heat index in Athens. Hot and tired both, no doubt.

I noticed the yawning too!

Maybe with the heat and the down economy, the girls just decided that the sororities can take them as is. I also know that many of the houses are going through major changes in, shall we say, reputation and status. As in there no longer seems to be a set-in-stone top (dare I say it?) tier. It will be interesting to hear back about the satisfaction levels of PNMs once rush is over. I watched friends go through back when there was a lot of nasty gaming going on and thanked my lucky stars I wasn't rushing there. If things have gotten more "chill", then we may hear about happier NMs - which they should be at Georgia anyway, given the very high quality of all the houses.

Okay, how many of us didn't have more than a few fashion missteps at this age???? (I for one would like a fashion do-over for most of the early 90's). Not trying to be the PC-police, and feel free to "no she didn't!" all you want in your head, but maybe we should keep it to ourselves.

If my post came across as pointing out fashion missteps, I apologize - I just wanted to say that it was great that they looked like normal girls for a change.

I have a daughter who is going through now, they are in the Second Round today. (I am posting the little bits of news I get from her under Recruitment stories...and I hope some other moms/dads will do the same. I learned so much from reading the old threads about UGA from a couple of years ago.)

We did get a page of Recruitment Statistics in our packets at the parent orientation which was really interesting. It listed the percentages pledged, withdrawn, released and mismatched for 2007, 2008, and 2009. In 2007, 74% pledged, 22% withdrew, 3% were released, and 3.9% mismatched. In 2009, 78% pledged, 13% withdrew, 4.8% were released, and 0.6% mismatched. It also broke down the number that withdrew/were released by rounds.

While Lightning Bug may be correct about the top tier at UGA not being set in stone, it is well known who the top five are.

I am assuming you mean 150, 250, 324, 338, and 440 S. Milledge. I have spoken with PNMs who are thinking outside that box, in spite of the fact that they do want the "prestige" return invites. I am encouraging that sort of thinking, in spite of the fact that I have written recs for one of those five houses.

Just got a text from Athens - there is a tornado warning right now and all the house tours are still going on. All the PNM's are hunkered down in the houses to wait it out. I'm sure it will be ok, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Does anyone know if this has ever happened before?

Since when? In my time, I would have traded out 886 & 897 for 150 & 338.

Good, I'm glad that this is not the case and there are other contenders! I think if you talk to different people, you get different answers. I was assuming that the poster in question was going "old school" with the "top five", since she appears to be the mom of a sister in one of those houses to which I referred. But the fact that you say "since when?" is great! I would hope that we couldn't come to agreement about those "top" five. That would be good news for UGA Panhellenic, especially as all the houses have stellar women, and what was "top five" in my "old school" days no longer constitutes "top five."

In any case, let's not go down this path and return to a nice recruitment thread where tornadoes go away and all houses are great choices!

I would say that "tent talk"/talk among current undergrads would agree with your original top 5 (and I just left in May). Although, after working in the Greek Life Office for two years, I can confidently say that all 17 chapters are strong and provide great experiences for it's members.
