Think it might be to give legacy status to their descendants.

I know Phi Mu offers local alums the opportunity to affiliate with the NPC if they absorb a local or do a merger. There is a time limit, though.

Yeah but still, someone dies and you're thinking about their kids/nieces/siblings legacy status?

I just, that would be so low on my priority list, and if it ever even came up I think it would be wrong to initiate the deceased into an org for that reason.
The ONLY time I think I'd see it would be if they were in the process of transitioning and she was an active member in the absorbed sorority, and then it's more of an "in memorium" sort of thing.

I just don't like the idea.

Well it was more like somebody died and some time afterward her local get absorbed. Though honestly not sure how I feel about it myself.

Yeah, that situation would be a flat out no for me. I can only see it working as something similar to graduating a student who dies, or is expected to die, before school is out.

But it isn't her legacy to give. I understand what you are saying, but it's no different than the women who were part of small organizations that have closed. Their descendants are not able to claim a legacy in another organization either. Just because ABC took over DF, doesn't mean that Grandma, who was never initiated into ABC has any claim to ABC for her descendants.

I can only speak for my org, but this isn't possible for us.

In order to affiliate, the alumna would have to accept the offer and physically attend the Arc Degree and Initiation ceremonies (with the rest of the affiliating collegians) or make arrangements to do it with a local alumnae chapter.

There is no posthumous pledging or initiation.
