That's probably because Barry Switzer went down to coach for Dallas and lots of folks just stuck with it. I don't really get emotionally invested in any one NFL team though. No reason to care about any of them.

We do have a professional sports franchise now though, the OKC Thunder. So far, I've made it out to at least a couple games per year.

There are lots of people in the area that don't know the history of the team (nor probably care)

A lot of people here like the orioles, and they're starting to steal fans away from the Braves. I guess the NOVA types root for the Nationals. Richmond now has the Flying Squirrels (AA baseball) and the Renegades (AA hockey). We had a WNBA team for a while, but I guess no one in town supported them. Even for a WNBA team.

The northwest is notably light in the professional sport arena (at least for football, baseball, soccer, and basketball). Even moreso now that the Sonics went to OK City. I believe that leaves us with Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Sounders, and Portland Trailblazers- so one of each to cover the pacific northwest. According to various tv shows, people in Alaska tend to root for these teams because they're the closest.... even though Anchorage is 1500 miles from Seattle!

<Slight swerve> For those who are fortunate enough to have two teams to choose from in one city or very close by, how do you choose between them? Do you go with whomever is best at the time, cheaper tickets, broadcasted on tv/radio, family tradition, or something else?

Ravens

- We have more dedicated fans.
- Best rivalry with the Steelers
-been a fan since inception
-better stadium and easily accessible with Baltimore Metro
-tickets are easier to get than Redskins tix.
-This year more Ravens games were on than past years, I think even a Skins game was pre empted at one point and the Ravens Vikings game was shown....LOL

And the fans are more polite at the games! I hate going to Fed-Ex field. No one will sit down for the entire game. It is soooo rude.
At M&T, you ONLY stand up for important plays, otherwise, you get yelled at to sit down! I'm so glad the Saints play the Ravens instead of the Skins next year so I don't have to go to Fed-Ex next year! I always go to a Ravens game anyway since they're my second fav team.

I was just at an Indiana Pacers game and was amazed at how many people were wearing Colts jerseys. But the Pacers are horrible right now, so more people root for the Colts as the primary. However if the Pacers ever get good again and Manning retires, then it will switch to the Pacers.

I love Conseco Fieldhouse, but the ushers are like the Stasi- don't even look at the empty seat next to you or they will ask for proof that you have a ticket for it. The Lucas Oil ushers are much nicer are better at customer service. (but that's another thread).

CT has no sports teams, but there are a lot of teams in the area (MA, NY, etc.). As far as how people choose: generally the area of the state closer to NY follows the Yankees, Mets and Giants, while the closer you get to the northern part of the state (near MA), you'll find more Sox and Pats fans. A lot of it also has to do with family tradition - as I said, in my case, my dad has been a die hard Yankees and Giants fan since childhood.
