When we last left our story, I had ranked the groups:

1. Summer (where Jill’s roommate Marie was a sister)
2. Winter (home of my favorite animal, colors I loved, and a room I was in love with, Careen’s top choice)
3. Spring (where my friend Tara was a sister)
4. Fall (where I was sure I didn’t fit in, but where Beth really wanted to be)

It was time to meet with my Rho Chis. My heart was literally in my throat as I knocked on the door of the conference room she was using and went inside. I was so nervous! When I sat down across from my Rho Chis, they both had this “we’re sorry” look on their faces. I was devastated before they even said anything. They told me that I hadn’t gotten invited back to all 4, and that one of my top choices had not invited me back, but that I did get 2 invitations, so I should be grateful. Grateful? I was thrilled!!! I couldn’t believe that 2 groups actually invited me back, I ripped open the envelope to find out which ones.

I had been invited back to Summer and Spring. At first I was really disappointed that I had been dropped from Winter, but then I remembered how they had made fun of my jacket and looked down on my job, so I didn’t stay upset for long. I was really glad Fall had dropped me, because they had been my bottom choice and I didn’t want to be around Beth that much anyway. I happily accepted both invitations. I think my Rho Chis were surprised that I wasn’t upset about Winter and Fall dropping me, but I was just so happy to get ANY invites, that I’m quite sure I bounced all the way out of their room and back up to my dorm room.

Round Two parties would be the next night, so I had time to think about what to wear and somehow I managed to get some studying done. Round Two was “Skit Night” and I was really looking forward to seeing the skits.
First I went to Summer. They did an MTv top 10 countdown type skit where they used popular songs and made up new Summerish lyrics. It was pretty cute. I remember laughing while watching some of the girls really concentrating on their parts. Marie had told me to look out for her and I did. She smiled directly at me a lot during the skit and made sure to introduce me around again that night. I had some pretty good conversations that night—not just about “what’s your major” type of stuff, but about philanthropy and scholarship and even about my involvement in church. I left pretty happy with how the party had gone. I was pretty shocked to see both Beth and Careen in this party with me. I wondered if they had gotten dropped from their favorites, or if they had dropped someone. I wasn’t sure, but still it surprised me that they were there. Careen really seemed to be having fun, but Beth had a really sour look on her face. Come to find out she didn’t get invited back to Fall!

Then it was off to Spring, and they did the exact same skit as Summer (With a few different songs and lyrics, but still it was mostly the same.) I didn’t know who had copied off of whom, but I was suddenly not impressed with either group. I just wanted them to be more creative! Tara grabbed me and introduced me around again. Again, Careen and Beth were both there. I couldn’t believe that I was in the same parties as those two. Surely there was some mistake somewhere. These girls knew how to be sorority girls, and yet here they were in the same two parties as me. Maybe I wasn’t doing so badly after all.

Or maybe I was…it turns out that Winter and Fall were really the “Premier” chapters at the school. Often Spring and Summer were seen as the “rejects”. Suddenly it began to make more sense. I had been a reject in high school, of course I wouldn’t get invited back to the “good” groups. Perfect! So much for my “change” since High School—it was just more of the same. Well, at least I’d have a group of people a lot like myself. Maybe I’d find a way to fit in.

I didn’t like this pity party I was throwing for myself, so I shut it out of my mind and reminded myself that there were quite a few girls that hadn’t gotten invited back to any groups. I was lucky. There were 2 groups who apparently wanted me! This was a good thing! Once I focused on that, I was more excited than ever about finishing out recruitment!

I love your story, but I have to ask: what's a creepy mascot? Sasquatch? I know you can't answer now, but if you wouldn't mind telling me later (PM?), I'm dying of curiosity!

A skull and crossbones, if that particular chapter emphasized that as a mascot! Some people think owls are a little scary. Then there are those terrifying pandas that AOPi has... hehe.

You didn't give us rankings after Pref Night?! Torture!!!

It sounds like you were truly torn and you'd be happy in either house. I'm still rooting for summer!

Sunday morning, I woke up and waited and waited and waited. I didn’t even go to church because I was so nervous. I kept waiting for my phone to ring and my Rho Chis to tell me that I hadn’t gotten a bid. Soon there was a knock on my door and it was one of my Rho Chis.

She handed me an envelope!

It was a bid!

It was to my first choice!

I screamed! I jumped up and down. I fiercely hugged my Rho Chi! She told me to go back into my room and that we could eat lunch during certain hours, and that I should wear some shorts and a plain top to meet with my Rho Chi group one last time and that I shouldn’t reveal what I had gotten just yet. I was so excited that I couldn’t eat or drink or even think straight!

We met as a Rho Chi group, and I saw that most of my group was there. It seemed all but 1 or 2 had received bids. Beth and Careen were there. I had not seen Beth the night before, but I had seen Careen at Summer, so I wasn’t sure what they had gotten, but I couldn’t wait to find out.

Then we went to sign the Pan-Hellenic book and get our Pan-Hel ribbons. Then we each got our sorority ribbons and I was SHOCKED to find out that both Beth and Careen were in the same group as me!

Finally, it was time to run out to my new sorority…my new sisters...

you didn't think I'd really tell you in this post did you? Cliffhangers are much more fun!
