I just HAD to bump this thread, because I just happened to see the new season, and OMG!!! Patti's plastic surgery is so obvious now, that it looks like her eyeballs are gonna pop right out of her head. Her skin is so stretched, you can actually see the strain in her eyebrows, ... like she can't frown anymore or something. Why did she DO that to herself? She looks HIDEOUS!! With all the money she makes, I'd like to think she could afford a cosmetic surgeon who REALLY knows what (s)he's doing, because this last job was jacked up. I'm actually mad about it.

I can't watch this any longer; she drives me crazy and the flat iron and hair color are on overload.
I actually enjoyed when she was in NYC, but can't deal with the LA gold diggers any more. I remember a quote from Patty when she was in NYC that the East Coast girls are more proud of their brains and the West Coast girls are more proud of their bodies. I guess that puts me in the East.

Do you think it is locals or in movers who do surgery more? Obviously people in the business (or want to be in the business) are going to get surgery regardless, but outside of LA to San Diego, I don't know many west coast people who do surgery. Even people I grew up with or know who are in the business and moved south aren't getting surgical work.
I think all the fresh air and low temps/low UV and sun preserved me well, not to mention the booze from college and avoiding smoking. I can't help but notice any actor or actress with smoker mouth, that is so hard to hide and get rid of.

Serious answer VandalSquirrel: In my circle of friends and acquaintances there are women who have lived here all their lives, immigrants from Iran and Russian and a few people who moved here. I am also including children who had nose jobs, ear pinnings, chin implants, boob jobs etc. botox, restylane, and other injectables. Some are life long friends. I don't know a single family where someone hasn't had work done. When I was in high school I was mad that I had a good nose, so I could join the nose plaster gang.
I was going to have a facelift around now I felt....until I got cancer 5 years ago. Enough.

I think when she says West Coast girl, she's talking about a certain section of the West Coast. Obviously my opinion is just that, and based on anecdotal evidence, but the people I know like being known for intellectual accomplishments, as well as being healthy. Maybe she's discussing the microcosm of where ellebud lives, considering that is where she is filming.

I technically had a nose job due to my sinus issues. I had a deviated septum/broken nose and had it fixed so I could breathe easier, my nose is exactly the same as it always was, so I don't think it counts since I had holes punched in my sinuses and my adenoids removed again during the surgery.
There are some women where I live now who get "work" done, but they are far and few between. Probably where you live it is just more part of the culture and no one thinks twice. I'm just guessing, but I think like me your "industry" adjacent (though my family ties are in production, not performance) and it is just what people do where you live. My uncle lives down your way and had some eye work, but in the end it was partially a result of genetics he needed it, but I think what he does for a living added the pressure. I know my cousins from Southern California are my only family members of my generation who had work, and the rest of the cousins thought she was a super freak for not only doing it, but showing it off.
Where I grew up is often so the opposite, the pressure to be so alternative, so green, so hip, and so on, can be just as hard as looking a certain way and having work done to do it.

Well one can fix specimens with alcohol, and I believe quite a bit of college booze was cheap alcohol with high content and low quality, so it acted like a fixative or formaldehyde I also quit drinking for the most part, and I never smoked and kept down excessive sun exposure so I think the preservation window passed.
Now it is all higher quality liquor if any at all, and I drink a hell of a lot less of it. Saves money and calories in the long run. Can't say I don't get nostalgic for rum and diet coke or vodka in crystal light every so often.

Agreed. I think it is between Santa Barbara to La Jolla.
My cousin moved there right after college and every one of her friends has had something done (and I'm not talking injectables). One friend does interviews for ESPN and had a full facelift at 42. Most have had boob jobs and all have had lipo somewhere.

New episode was interesting.
This guy adopted his wife's daughter. When they divorced and she started dating another man with marriage plans, he signed the child over to the other man. Patti convinced him to find a private investigator to find the child. Why would he sign off his parental rights?
Needless to say that was a hot button topic for his dates. Interesting.
*****
What the hell was Patti's comment on Watch What Happens Live about? She told this man that he's so handsome and she thought he was "straight." Then she said "that's a compliment...."
Andy's face was all screwed up, as was mine. Andy asked her what that comment meant and since when "straight" is a compliment. She said "well, he doesn't look like a queen." Andy's face was just like mine...what the hell?! Had she had too much to drink during the Watch What Happens drinking game? They provide free drinks so guests have gotten drunk on aire. Her comment just annoyed me more than her other annoying comments do.
