I don't know what this means...
Is this an actual GCer or a literary reference?

Per The Wiki:
Bloody Mary is a ghost or witch featured in Western folklore. She is said to appear in a mirror when her name is called three times (or sometimes more, depending upon the version of the story), often as part of a game at slumber parties.

Seriously? You haven't played "Bloody Mary?" No it's not a GC reference.
ETA: Just saw that MysticCat & I posted at the same time. That is "Bloody Mary."

That's how I understood it as well. Plus, we already have a fair amount of open guessing on the board about the poster behind each of the Sock Puppet names.
I don't necessarily see the point of the thread, but I don't see the point to a lot of the threads on the board (and some people probably don't see the point of some of my threads, like the "Beer Appreciation Thread"), so no biggie.

I, personally, am more than OK with outing the annoying ones (Earp, BA, etc.).
The fun ones can stay anonymous.

I thought the same thing Tippie did - since the thread title is about identifying sock puppets, I thought it was going to be, well, identifying them.
So, here's a question: If a poster quits using one name and reregisters with another, is that person a sock puppet? (I'm not talking about the people who ask John to change their screen names.) Just trying to make sure I use the proper terms.
Back on topic - I'm curious how Sheetcake got started. I don't need to know who (s)he is, but I'd love to know the backstory.

I always understood "Sock Puppet" to mean someone who hides behind a 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th, etc.) screenname to post outlandish stuff. It could be mildly amusing, or it could be really offensive. It just means that they post regularly under one name, but use the second name for those less-serious purposes.

^^ This type of thing is why I thought the thread would be entertaining.

The "fun" sockpuppets have stories that won't be told to the general public of GC. They prefer to stay hidden in the backdrop of inside jokes. In other words, you'll never be able to know the stories behind them. Just enjoy the cheer they spread across GC.

I think there's only a handful of us left who know the Sheetcake story.

I think both of us were keeping track for a while. Mine began with the Allona/Cedric/Jolly Greek Giant/etc. I let it die for maybe 9 months, then it came back as Pew Buck and wished me the creepiest Happy Birthday.
Of course, we have TEITY. Even when he tries to disguise his posts, we know it is him. His one liners with misspelled words and misuse of the English language are too easy. I just sit back and imagine him having the DTs when he tries to abstain from smilies. Eh, he probably just downs another shot to calm his nerves.

I guess we were too busy at slumber parties putting each other's bras in the freezer and trying to lift someone with only our index fingers!

Thanks, Sheetcake, for making an appearance on the thread! Maybe this will cause others to come on and share their stories!

I am going to respectfully disagree with Tippiechick. Even though some of us were not part of the original inside jokes, we want to be able to laugh when they are mentioned and partake of the "cheer of GC" as well.

As much as I'd like to know the story behind Sheetcake, not knowing it doesn't prevent me from laughing whenever (s)he spreads cheer across GC. (And might I add that the recent nosy cake post - I don't remember which thread it's in - is among my all-time favorite Sheetcake posts.)
