During rush last semester a potential new member came up to me and says "So... Is it true??" I was like umm I am not quite sure what you are talking about... She responds with "I heard you girls make your pledges put their heads in an oven for 10 seconds" It took everything in me not to bust out laughing in her face but instead I responded with... "Oh no, that's not true... It's acutally 15 seconds...." Just to see her reaction, because clearly anyone who believes something so crazy deserves to be messed with lol... Needless to say we did not extend a bid to her lol

I would say the craziest rumor I heard was that one of my linesisters broke an IG's ankle because the IG couldn't name everyone from our line in order. I never understood how that one got started.

Just heard this one last night. Some guy said that when his uncle pledged to the fraternity, he had to swallow 25 goldfish and that he could feel them swimming around for about a month.

Don't know why he actually beleives this, We only make them swallow 5.

I've heard a few rumors around my campus about certain houses...

One of my guy friends said he heard some people talking about my chapter had super hot and cool girls come and do recruitment for us this year so we could have a hot new member class. Haha, we had our own super hot and cool girls do recruitment

I heard one of the fraternity pledge classes have to raise a couple of dogs and then have them fight before they get initiated and whichever one lives is their pledge class dog.

I also heard another one where the pledge class raises one dog and then at the end of their pledgeship they have to kill it. (Those are horrible)

At my school, supposedly the Fijis and Phi Kappa Psi's do the elephant walk.

There's also another rumor where a certain sorority and certain fraternity new member classes all have to hook up with each other and then after they all hookup, then they can get initiated.

When my local sorority became part of AEPhi, AEPi had been on campus for nearly 50 years. A rumor started going around that the local chapter of AEPi had gone coed, or that we were some sort of AEPi little sister org.

To be fair, the members of the local chapter of AEPi were very supportive of us as we got started as a local.

But, um, yeah... On the national level, AEPhi was founded before AEPi. Also, phi and pi are not the same letter. You'd think that at an engineering school, people would know the difference.

This is a rumor at my school as well. It is said that in order to be initiated, the NMs of a certain sorority have to have sex w/ members of whatever fraternity the sorority chooses that year. Plus they have to have an active sister in the room to watch & make sure the NM actually does it.

I don't know if it is a popular rumor, but I did hear about it because an ex-member of this sorority told one of my good friends it was the reason she dropped the sorority.

the funniest and worst rumor about my chapter is..........."you have to sit on a cone", "and we drive our new mem to vermont leave them and make them get their own way back" lmao who thought of these because there not true, i think the funniest is the vermont bcuz y would we waste our gas driving ALL the way up there and then back to MD.

We used to have this huge fountain in the middle of our courtyard, but it broke one year and it eventually got torn down. Now there is a hugering of bricks, with a circle of concrete in the middle.

I've been asked if that is really an entrance to an underground dungeon in which we haze the pledges.

Weirdest one I hear about us is that we have a secret tunnel to burger king. Our house is the newest on campus and is at the end of Greek row, placing it closest to burger king so apparently we have a tunnel now.

That we lied about where our semi-formal was and photoshopped the pictures on facebook (yeah, all 2000 something of them, by guys and girls). Go figure.

There are a bunch about different sororities on our campus. During recruitment, we had to write down all the rumors we heard about the different sororities (some are funny, some are kinda mean).

One girl thought there was a sorority that made their girls sleep in a coffin and drink animal blood before they could be initiated.

There was the one where a certain sorority made their girls get naked, sit on paper towels and watch porn and the first one to 'wet' the paper towel was dropped.

One was that the NMs of a sorority got saran-wrapped and had all their 'fat' circled.

And the ever-popular "those girls sleep with everyone".

And the other was that one sorority was the 'reject' sorority that bid on all the girls who didn't get bids from anyone else.

Of course, they're all false. Our campus gets on our asses about hazing like nobody's business.
