Funniest/Strangest Rumor about your Chapter

I thought this would be a fun tongue-in-cheek thread! What is the funniest or most out there rumor about your chapter you have overheard? I feel like before JuicyCampus the rumors were so much more interesting and creative.

My personal favorite was when one girl on campus started saying we had top secret recruitment parties and were underground pledging a second full pledge class even though we were well over total and had gotten quota at my campus for as long as I can remember. She was even naming girls from our last initiated pledge class and saying they were some of the new secret "pledges"! We were supposedly trying to become super big without people noticing? Anyways, apparently she "heard this" from two Alpha Phis who were her "close friends". She was so adamant about it and would tell anybody who would listen but I don't think anybody believed her.

One guy came up to my friends and I at a party and declared he had figured out what Alpha Phi meant. We kind of gave him a weird look and without pause he said, in all seriousness, "Aristotle and Plato". I haven't laughed that hard in a long time and told him that would be "Alpha Pi".

Some rumors...

Each pledge class that gets initiated, one member have some "one on one time" with a goat. lol

And of course Pike does the elephant walk.

Fiji makes their pledges study for hours on end and then has a World of Warcraft tournament (oh wait.. nvm.. that's not a rumor :P)

^^ Ok, what's up with the goat thing?? I've heard a ridiculous number of people spread rumors that an organization does something with a goat at initiation. What exactly are these new members supposedly doing with said goat?

right before I was initiated they were saying things about a goat lol. I think it's name was Bob. We all knew they were joking and it was really funny. Didn't know so many other chapters used a goat too lol.

There was a chapter on my campus that had a song about a goat. I wish I could remember it!

You don't wanna be first and you don't wanna be last.

I dunno, it's a funny thing to joke with pledges about.

I love yelling "Bring out the goat!" when they're all lined up.

eta: do you really not know what the goats about?

I know what it's about, I find it hard to believe people can't figure it out. When they're lined up someone off in dark going "Mahaahh!" while everyone else yells "The goat's here!" is amazing.

"Riding the goat" as an aspect of initiation into secret societies, and as a general euphemism for initiation itself, goes way back, originally being applied to Odd Fellows and Freemasons. A pretty good history of it can be found here.

From "riding the goat," it wasn't a long trip to goats have all kinds of parts to play in initiations. ;)

And great picture!

On my own, using my imagination, I had come to two different conclusions.. For one, you’re facing the front of the goat, the other, you’re facing the back. I had never heard what exactly the whole story was though.

Either way, it didn't sound fun. haha

A certain fraternity on campus had their pledges keep care of a goat for a year.

I've heard some of the strangest and most untrue things about my chapter and others:

*One chapter won't initiate you unless you purchase a tanning package.

*One chapter only takes girls who were on dance team in HS, because they only want girls who will help them win Songfest.

*Another chapter will cut any girl who didn't play a sport in HS.

*One chapter can only take 5 brunettes per NM class.

These are all of course false, but they're hilarious because I don't even know where girls hear this stuff from. The funny thing is, most of the people I've heard this stuff from are non-greek girls.

This isn't really a rumor; just a rushee's ignorance. She said, "Alpha Gamma Delta's colors are purple and canvas!"

Our Pi Chi's had canvas bags with purple stitching, and apparently she thought they were all Alpha Gam
