ellebud, please, please, please know that I was in no way referring to the KDs at Ole Miss. I don't know what my friend and her family did concerning recs for her daughter--I was just using that as an example of multiple family members wanting to share in a PNM's rush experience. That being said, I don't know if the KD rec form, for example, would allow for more than one signature, but that's an idea, especially from the paperwork aspect. I wonder if the days of the paper rec will be coming to a close in this electronic world we live in?

MSKKG: I wasn't referring to the KD at Ole Miss, or anywhere specifically. I just assumed that since you're from South Carolina that this is a girl who was/is going to rush at a southern school. I do not want to, in anyway, jeopardize some's rush.

My only point was to save time/effort/and the sanity of the rec chair that if a group of people sent in the rec or legacy forms it just might make things easier for them, and more cohesive in the general picture of the girl in question.

If, in some way, I said something about someone inadvertantly (and trust me, we have never had the opportunity to go to Mississippi nor do we know anyone there) that could point at a young lady...my apologies.

ellebud, I was trying to clarify my post for everyone else and not pointing fingers at you. I didn't want anyone to think I was criticizing the Ole Miss KDs, their policies, or their sisterhood. I was only trying to give an alum's view of the privilege and thrill of writing recs for special PNMs. Please accept my apologies for any misunderstanding of my intentions.

My experience was the enormity of the paperwork. As you are working on recruitment, you surely want to get to know the PNM. But having 10 recs saying the same thing only becomes frustrating. You don't get to know her better with every subsequent rec.

Now, I haven't looked at other rec forms in a while, but ours spells out (not verbatim) "Greeks in your family". If you listed the 6 KDs (your example), we get the picture. PNM is a super-legacy. But, we don't need tons of recs telling us that.

Just thinking back 25 years ago, we did refer to one girl as "PNM-overkill". I don't really know if it was her fault, but everyone knew who she was. I can't remember too many details, but I think it hurt her when voting came around

Hey sorry I was out of town this weekend!

Pref Night: I was so incredibly nervous about pref night all day! What if Marc Jacobs had cut me? Would I drop, or continue to give the other another chance? But it finally arrived, and my schedule said....... Coach and Marc Jacobs! Everyone told me that if they have invited me back all the way to pref. night they are genuinely interested in me, and that gave me hope!

Marc Jacobs: The ceremony was so touching, and they talked about how much they loved being Marc Jacobs, and all of their sisters. The girl who preffed me was so nice and funny; we clicked instantly!I told her how much I loved Marc Jacobs, and I could really see myself finding a home there! I left the house with an enormous smile on my face..I didn't think the night could have gone any better!

Coach: I went into this party knowing that I didn't care if I was on my "top game" or not. By no means was I going to be rude or condescending though. I walked in the door, and my girl for the night was my family friend from home! She talked about how much she loved being in coach, and how she hoped that I would find I home there too! I felt horrible!! There was no way I could say, "well actually I don't feel at home in this house, and I'm in love with another!" So I just smiled and nodded...I didn't want to lie and lead her on ...

Someone told me later that day even If I ranked Marc Jacobs first, and they wanted to offer me a bid, if Coach ranked me higher I would go to them! I HIGHLY thought about suiciding, because I knew that I could never see myself in Coach despite my family friend. But EVERYONE I had ever talked to said that was like the number one "no no" in rushing, and even my pi chi said absolutely not! So I prayed for the best and ranked Marc Jacobs first and Coach second. Needless to say I did not get much sleep that night!

There is that ridiculous rumor about one group's bid list placements trumping another despite what the pnm prefs! AGH! I seriously hope the rho chi straightened that out for you.

Bid Day!
I woke up with my heart beating! Would I get the dreaded call? I was all ready to head and meet my pi chi group, and my phone rang, and it was an unavailable number and I swear I thought I would have a heart attack right there............

It was only my dad wishing me luck from his work haha! Of course I snapped at him, and told him not to call me..I would call him! I made it to meeting time without a call from my pi chi, so I did feel a little relieved! At the same time, however, I knew in my heart that If I got a bid from Coach I would most likely drop. You are not allowed to drop during bid day, so if I did receive a bid from Coach I would have to participate in all of their Bid day activities/parties. We all meet up and watched Pi Chi revelations! My Pi Chi turned out to be a Chanel! Afterwards we stood in a circle and were told to close our eyes! We were then each handed a t-shirt and an envelope. After everyone recieved theirs, we were told to open our eyes. I looked at my t-shirt and it said.............................................. ..................................Marc Jacobs!!

I didn't even open my envelope, and began sprinting towards Marc Jacob's section! I was so happy and excited that day! Everything had worked out in the end! While I did not have the best rush experience, I did end up in one of my favorites throughout the week! I have been a Marc Jacobs for a few months now, and I LOVE it and all of my sisters! I can't imagine myself anywhere else! I know that this is where I was meant to be! I am also now a strong believer that girls going through rush while it may be stressful, and make you discouraged everything always works out for the best in the end!
