There's a ton of misinformation being propagated by that "documentary." The culling of young calves from the pods predates the passage of the marine mammal protection act; SeaWorld has changed owners multiple times since then; the former trainers interviewed were realtively inexperienced and the most vocal never worked directly with the whales. No one ever got into the water with Tilly; Kalina was most certainly NEVER taken to SeaWorld San Diego or separated from her mother as a calf (she lived out her life at the Orlando park).
Should these animals be in the care of man? Interesting dialogue for sure, but the film does not present an objective view and is full of blatant lies. I can't speak for the non-SeaWorld parks they mentioned; I can only go by my own experience as a former SeaWorld Orlando employee. One of my sorority sisters works for Discovery Cove. She is a vegan due to her personal beliefs about animals; I realize she is just one person, but she saw the film and still supports the parks 100%.
If anyone is going to hate on SeaWorld, please also stop patronzing Disney, as they have a zoo at their park too (Animal Kingdom and a number of their animals died due to their negligence and inexperience when it first opened).
