Unhappy I still can't believe this

Actually, when the news broke I was on the internet at like 2 or 2:30 in the morning and I saw a posting about it. I went to Yahoo news and there it was.
I was so shocked because for the past 2 weeks I had been humming her "Back and forth" song because for some reason, the dj had brought that song back. I was like, "This is my JAM, I haven't heard it for a long time!"
So for like the past 2 weeks I have been humming this song and thinking about the time in my life when this song first hit the air waves (when I was a little tyke ) And it just brought back so many memories it's unbelievable.
This is so sad, especially after Jet had her on the front cover a few weeks ago. She was just so young....
God is with her family and so are my prayers...

I still can not believe that she is gone. Here music and videos will always be here. I am glad that she was (and always be) a positive role model. who is beautiful inside and out. She showed the world that talent, fame, and being level headed can go together. You don't have to be about Drama to be famous. She will be missed

I know Aaliyah is in a better place. I know that death is a part of life but it is the part that I could do without.

This tribute just goes to show it's not about the LONGEVITY of a person's life but what they did with that life; whose life they touched.

Aaliyah will be missed but hopefully people take something positive from her death. That is what she would want.

I agree that Aaliyah is in a better place. I watched BET Tonight w/Fatima, Angie Stone, and some others. When DMX called in with a letter he wrote to Aaliyah after her death I was touched. But, when he started crying over the phone...that's when the guests almost lost their composure. I pray that her family and friends will have the strength and faith to move on. Tragic things happen in people's lives, but God always gives us the courage to face another day.

Unhappy

I first heard the news of Aaliyah's death while reading another message board early Sunday morning. I was in total shock and disbelief! I had to go search for the actual news acrticle myself b/c otherwise I would not have believed it. The wierd thing is that when I first read the news, I was listening to her "One In A Million" CD. Even though I didn't know her personally, it really heart my heart to hear the news of her passing. She was a very talented and beautiful young lady and she will definitely be missed. It is a very tragic situation and my heart and prayers go out to the family and friends of all those who died in the crash. A very sad reminder that no one is promised tomorrow. Rest in peace, Aaliyah...

Angry Aaliyah

I was saddened to hear of Aaliyah's death. I wanted it to be a trick someone was playing also. She has come so far and represented our women of color well at such a young age. I was the ghetto one to say oh she's too pretty to die, lol. Joking off the saddened feelings. Pretty messed up isn't it? As a christian I haven't really been into the R&B world, but Aaliyah was someone I admired as a performing arts star, I hope that she got her life together before it ended. My deepest sympathy goes out to her family for this time a year ago I lost one of the closest members in my family.

What do you mean?
Do you think that because she was singing "Secular music" she was not a Christian?

Her relationship with God is a private matter but I believe that "her life [was] together" when God called her home.

I am not trying to be confrontational but your statement really got to me in that it sounds as if you are judging someone who you did not know.

I am a Christian, like many others on this board, but just because I listen to secular music does not make me any less together than someone who listens to Gospel.

I agree, CT4. I'm not trying to take this to another level, but a "get in free" card (to heaven) isn't guaranteed b/c a person doesn't listen to or sing secular music.

Aaliyah's death is very sad and shocking to me. Hearing about her death really grounded me and made me realize that life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

ttt . . .I cannot believe it has been 2 years.

I've been listening to streaming music from KMEL in S.F, CA and they have been playing Aaliyah's songs back to back and each song reminds me of good times.

She is truly missed

I still remember that I was talking to my (now ex) boyfriend and saw the news flash across the screen on MTV. I cried for two days, I was so hurt. I try to remember how classy she was and how she carried herself. And I still play her songs just about every day.

Did I miss something? Do you mean two years since her death or ten years since she came out? After a long day, my mind isn't working that fast!

I meant 2, hence the title. It was a mistake on my part in the actual post.

When I woke up, I thought about her. Then, as I was driving to work, I neevr heard anyone mention it. I finally heard the radio station say somehting and play one of her songs sometime around 3pm. It's sad to know that we will never get another album from her....

(8/26/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- Fans of deceased R&B singer and actress, Aaliyah, honored the fallen star on Monday (August 25) with a prayer service and candlelight vigil at Ferncliff cemetery in Westchester county, New York. The event marked the second anniversary of the singer's tragic death in an airplane crash.

The singer's label, Blackground Records, released a new single, "Don't Know What To Tell Ya," to coincide with the anniversary. The song is the latest single from Aaliyah's posthumous release, I Care 4 U.

Some of the proceeds from the sale of I Care 4 U will benefit the Aaliyah Memorial Fund, which makes contributions to the Revlon UCLA Women Cancer Research Program and the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Harlem. Fans who wish to contribute to the fund can mail their donations to: Aaliyah Memorial Fund, c/o Entertainment Industry Foundation, 11132 Ventura Boulevard, Suite 401, Studio City, California 91604, Attn: Merrily Newton.

Aaliyah, seven other passengers, and the pilot were killed when a small Cessna 402-B crashed during take-off on August 25, 2001 in the Bahamas. The plane was transporting the star and her video crew back to Florida after shooting scenes for her latest video.

Following the crash, investigators suggested that the plane may have been overloaded and reports were released by the Bahamian government stating that the pilot, Luis Morales, may have had cocaine and alcohol in his system.
