Can you believe Aaliyah's Dead???

Hi Everyone,
I don't know if you've heard but the singer Aaliyah died on Saturday in a plane crash leaving from the Bahamas. When my friend told me about it, I didn't believe it, so I went to CNN.com and there it was right there on the main page. This is so sad. Just thought I'd share the news!

Sad Indeed

I was at the club tonight celebrating a friend's birthday and the DJ announced it. Ironically tonight while getting ready, I listened to her song with DMX, "Come Back in One Piece."

Such a shame, a positive young talent gone.

I couldn't believe it when I heard it either, so I went to her official website and it's reported on there. I heard it on MTV also. This is so sad, only 22 years YOUNG. The world's going to miss this talented young lady.

(Her official website is www.aaliyah2001.com if you want to visit it)

It truly is sad about this young artist. I was in shock when I heard it this morning. It is still so hard to believe and she will be truly missed :(

I am sadden by the new of Aaliaya. I really enjoyed her music, and her spirit. I met her about three years ago, and when I asked if I could take a picture with her, she was more than willing. I was shocked when I heard about the tradegy, and I must admit, I thought it was a poor STUPID joke, but when I found out it was true, my heart ached, and I felt as if I just lost a close and dear friend. I will keep her and her family in my prayers. :( :(

I am sadden by the news of Aaliyah's death.
I don't know about you all, but I feel like I know her.
She will be missed very much.
My prayer goes out to her family and her fans... me included!!

No, I can't believe it. I have all of her CD's and it feels like we grew up together. I remember I was still in high school when she first came out.

Another sad thing is when I went read the story on Yahoo's main page, I went to the message board expecting to read pleasant things. I was horrified and upset at some of the racial comments made by a few so-n-so's. This young lady was somebody's daughter, sister, cousin, etc., and for these idiots to make such harsh comments is ridiculous.

I too heard about her death early this morning, and I am still in a state of shock  and sadness!!:(

Sorors and Sisterfriends, I heard about the news of Aaliyah's untimely death at our Que/Delta party. When the DJ stopped the party and asked for a moment of silence in her memory we couldn't believe it and we didn't know if it was some type of joke or what. I never knew her, but after seeing her diary on MTV which they are playing in her memory...I feel like I knew her, more like a friend...than a superstar. The most important thing that I liked about her after seeing that special was how she said she thanks GOD for the blessings that he has bestowed on her everyday!

senseless...

:( This is extremely disappointing and heartbreaking. Whether people like her music or not, or appreciated her for her youth, talent, and beauty...this was another untimely death. I thought this was a joke. My chapter just had a carwash and our customers were talking about it, while the local radio stations were playing her songs in tribute. I am praying for her family and those closest to her. I'm sitting her watching CNN's news report on the plane crash. CNN showed some of her most recent hits, and a list of the other people that died (their ages and where they're from).

c&c1913 08-26-2001 06:07 PM

According to CNN's report, baggage handlers said the plane was overloaded with luggage. I saw CNN's list of other musicians who died in plane crashes, and I think that this hit closer to home for a lot of us because she's young and her music was our generation and not from our parents/ grandparents. It's such a shame. :(

My prayers go out to all of the families involved.

BET will air a special tribute tomorrow (Monday) at 6pm EST.

I was so heartbroken when I found out this morning. My aunt and my cousin asked me if I heard about it right after church.

My prayers go out to her family and the families of the other people who died in the crash. I know that God will comfort them all during this difficult time.

FOR THOSE INTERESTED:

BET will have a tribute to Aaliyah at 6:00 and 11:00 EST

ChaosDST 08-27-2001 06:37 PM

well...

I'm watching the Tribute on BET. I had forgotten that Aaliyah's been on the scene since like '93. I'm turning the channel now b/c this Tribute is too saddening. She's in the Lord's hands now.

CrimsonTide4 08-27-2001 06:46 PM

The Tribute

I think this tribute and re showing her diary are cathartic as a way of just remembering Aaliyah and her career.

The One in a Million CD was like a reflection of a relationship that I had in college. I can remember dancing in college to One In a Million and If Your Girl Only Knew.

I know Aaliyah is in a better place. I know that death is a part of life but it is the part that I could do without.

This tribute just goes to show it's not about the LONGEVITY of a person's life but what they did with that life; whose life they touched.

Aaliyah will be missed but hopefully people take something positive from her death. That is what she would want.
