Yeah, I saw the B and just wasn't sure if that referred to the Beta chapter at some school or if the society was no longer a collegiate group by this time.

Alert ---> this is going to be as clear as mud.....the early history isn't always neat and clean.

Chapter B was at Belden's Female Seminary in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa (It was also referred to as the Mount Pleasant Female Seminary). The school (and hence the chapter) closed in 1879.

Chapter F, Iowa in Bloomfield then took on the Chapter B, Iowa designation.

There was also a 2nd chapter B, Iowa. It was in Fairfield. That chapter disbanded in 1893.

By 1891, there were also Chapter Bs in California (Escondido) and Missouri (Memphis).

The name looks like Ella Dunn, but my eyesight is awful. If its something other than Ella Dunn, please let me know.

I found two references which lead me to believe the "B" is for the Iowa chapter in Fairfield.

The name discrepancy (Hathaway / Hathorn) needs more detective work than I can give it at the moment.

Fairfield Tribune
Fairfield, Jefferson, Iowa
Thursday, Dec. 28, 1882
26th- Marriage of Dr. J.E. Hathaway of
Arlington, Ill. to Miss Ella Dana of this city

Another book has a different name for her husband, but it includes a bio for him.
Dr Hathorn was married September 26 1882 in Fairfield Iowa to Miss Ella J Dana who was born September 29 1857 in Westfield Township.
