Did they have bad reps or no members? Just couldnt cut it? I dont know much about Ole Miss. Im learning more and more esp after reading this thread lol. I didnt realize it was like that, not that its bad, just much diff. I want to go visit their campus now it seems so gorgeous.

It wasn't that ADPi and ZTA couldn't make it all Ole Miss be/c they had been here for a very long time. However, they had a couple of recruitments where they didn't make quota and that hurt them. I think their smaller numbers back then scared PNMs away for whatever reason. However, it wasn't that they were bad or ugly. They were everything that an Ole Miss sorority girl is. They were beautiful, smart, poised, and all ladies. I think if the University would have helped ZTA out in some way, not sure what way though, ZTA they would have made it. Anyway, that's just my thoughts.

Erik and I agree to disagree many times.

But, I feel that He is coming from Strictly a Greek Social of the old NIC, PHC, and NHPC structures.

He has been around the horn working for TKE on many levels and is very knowledgeable on the ways of Social Greek lore.

Social Greeks are his fortee and I can see his point. I am a member of APO, but my time effort and money is with LXA.

The one thing I do agree with him on is the level of memberships in some Soroities that are so huge, my queston is, how can you know everyone

Granted, the size of the School can make a difference, but I for one would like to know My Brothers/Sisters, can you 200 member groups say that?

So while the Schools in the Southern States especially OLD Miss have huge groups, is it really for the best?

Is APII or ZTA, or anyother PHC any worse than the existing ones?

Is there any help among the Greek Organizations for the ones with low membership. Doesnt sound like it! Check The U Akron, Oh. Situation and feel good about having so many members who you cannot know!

in all fairness...

If the ladies at the University of Mississippi want chapters of
more than 200 girls, okay with me. But in reading previous posts
there were gripes about other groups not wanting to come on or
come back or succeeding...my point is simply that few applicants
emerge under the present conditions.
To the Phi Mu who got bent out of shape over the 200 members
"doing something that is right." Do not try to take a class in logic
or try to reason...200 members in nine sororities is hardly a good
example...why not 100 in eighteen sororities? But whatever turns your crank...you simply missed my point entirely.
And 33 girl, I made no mention of Beta Sigma Phi or the other ersatz groups who want to join the elitist sororities on college
campuses. Perhaps Tom Earp is right, times have changed. But
fraternities and sororities were originally elitist, and so were the
admissions policies. Yes, I do think if we would confer the PhD at
birth perhaps we could get on with livin.'
Finally, the crack about back-stabbing and other undesirable things during rush...was made by one of the girls from Ole Miss
whose chapter (presumably) suffered. I have not been through
rush in Mississippi, visited there or been an adviser there. But it
was a comment offered by a disappointed Ole Miss greek, not by
me.
And if Ole Miss wants 9 sororities with an over 200 membership,
fine. Have at it. And continue to preserve that wonderful tradition...if'n you're a mind to, y'hear?

Ole Miss is full of tradition which is one reason why trying to bring a new GLO to Ole Miss or trying to recharter one would be very difficult.

In one of thetalady's posts, she mentioned that there is no room for building any houses. For a GLO to come to Ole Miss and try to compete with the housed chapters, building a house is a necessity. To do otherwise would be the kiss of death.

You speak of civility, yet you criticize an institution of which you know nothing. Continue, and you will raise the ire of all Ole Miss Rebels on the boards. I have not responded on purpose, but your denigrating remarks about the intelligence level of those at Ole Miss prompted me to do so. I can't even begin to enumerate the contributions Ole Miss graduates have made in the fields of medicine, science, business, law, and education.

So, quit being so condenscending and preachy!

Ole Miss is one of the finest institutes around. Name me another school in the nation that grows and researches marijuana ...for medicinal purposes?

I went to the wrong school.

I think it's pretty clear to anyone that the fault doesn't lie with Ole Miss. I'm sure they'd love to have another sorority chapter -- or another five sorority chapters. It's the sororities themselves that don't want to take the chance that they might end up wasting millions of dollars on an Ole Miss colonization, and I'm not sure I blame them. The atmosphere itself is just not supportive to a recolonization there.

It's easy to say, "Hey, Ole Miss is screwing themselves by not taking another sorority," but that's obviously not the problem.

Yes, we are the ONLY place in the country where it's legal to grow marijuana.

I agree with Sugar & Spice. Financially, a new sorority would have to be willing to take a huge risk. I mean, they are going to need a house and some great alumnae around to support a new chapter. I also think it is too early for ADPi or ZTA to come back to Ole Miss.

If that's not a reason to be a proud Ole Miss Rebel, I don't know what is. Humboldt State, look out!

This Ole Miss Greek NEVER said she was disappointed by her Ole Miss experience... I was simply naming reasons why my GLO should not come back onto campus. Please, do not put words into my mouth. I love Ole Miss. It is God's Country to me and my family. I loved every single moment of my time there. Yes, there were times that were better than others. But, that's the way it is. Those experiences I had that weren't the absolute greatest were not caused by the Ole Miss Greek system in and of itself. It was a result, moreso, of Mississippi's "small-town, know-everyone-in-the-state" tradition.

I believe it is easy for those outside of the the Ole Miss system to sit and judge how things are. But, Ole Miss is a world of its own. It's a world that I would never change. Not one bit. I wouldn't even change our group leaving campus. Our group left because of numbers. We had 70 -- everyone else had 200 or so. Leaving was probably inevitable. But, that does not mean that I think the Greek system at Ole Miss needs changing? No, I am proud to have come from such a strong system... In every system, there are groups that have to leave and those that have great success. It's just the ebb and flow of Greek Life.

You seem to be so ready to jump down people's throats regarding Ole Miss... Why is there so much hostility? I don't think anyone on here has attacked you in the light that you have portrayed in your comments.

Wow, this all just makes me glad that I decided not to go to school at Ole Miss! They offered me a scholarship, and even had a nice frat boy call me to try to come, but I decided to come to Bama instead. Not that the greek system here is much better, lol.

Anyhow, I don't mean to rag on any Rebels. And while I'd LOVE to see Gamma Phi colonize at Ole Miss, I think we're really concentrating on S. Carolina and Texas A&M right now. Maybe 5 or 10 years from now, that would be awesome! We have a heard time recruting girls from Mississippi because we are not "known" there like all the others.
