a little pause
Hi Everyone,
Wow! It's great to see so many people excited about Gamma Chi!
I just wanted to ask everyone if it was OK to take a little "breather" here. We *do* have a list of people who are currently on committees. We are working as fast as we can to get the information out as soon as possible. Hopefully our committees will have preliminary reports posted by May 1st.
Until then, for those of you who have just recently found this thread, please hold off on forming any new committees. Here's what you *can* do: you may go back through the earlier posts and find the committee list. Find a committee that interests you and contact one of the people whose name you see listed. Ask if they still have room on their committee for an extra person.
theta sig agd, I agree, it is important to have a central listing of member information. However, at this time, there is no need for a mailing list or a "Central Information Committee". That is because our Membership Committee is already hard at work designing a membership application which will take care of the information you mentioned. Once that application is ready for distribution, *then* we can begin to collect and centralize the information. Since you seem to really be interested in that sort of thing, how 'bout you contact the Membership Committee and see if you can join up? I bet you'd have some great ideas!
Lady Pi Phi, same goes for you! We currently have a website committee in the process of putting together our internet presence. Please contact the Website Committee for more information on how you can help. The way I understand it, Gamma Chi is an off-shoot of Greek Chat - hence the name. I'm thinking that we are supposed to keep the discussion groups here for that reason. The yahoo groups were set up merely to function as listserves to help facilitate committee members' communication. But hey, go say hello to the website committee and ask how they might be able to incorporate your MSN community.
As I said earlier, I think everyone's enthusiasm is terrific! Of course, we ask that you do be patient as we seek to build a solid foundation for Gamma Chi. After all, Rome wasn't built in a day!
......Kelly

This should help
Instead of making everyone dig through the previous pages looking for it, I've posted the committee list below.
Please be aware that this is NOT an updated list. I already know that some people who should be listed aren't - and others decided to step out of committees. Final committee member lists should be presented by the Committee Chairs in their prelim reports. I suggest a maximum of 8 people per committee. It just doesn't make sense to have 35 people in a committee - how can the work ever get done?
At any rate, here's the gist of what we've got so far:
Constitution and Bylaws -
• DGPhoney
• Beryana
Officers -
• Navane
• HeavenslilAngel
• KRXAlum

Hi Navane,
My MSN community, was just a place to help organize things. I think if Gamma Chi is going to go anywhere, we need a place of our own. I know this is where it all started, but if it's going to expand we need aplace of our. This doesn't have to be the place, just a temporary place and I'm willing to work with our website creator on this. But if we're going to grow, I don't think we can remain here, especially not in this tiny thread.
Just my opinion,
Emily

I think many are trying to solve this problem by creating other threads inwhich to post what their committee or specific person has to say.
Its not that your website isnt a good idea and everything, Its just that right now as Navane said, there are certain ppl working on committees and Im not sure if your website has restricted members access, but your website (with all good intentions) might have tons of people logging on who arent on committees thinking that they are members, when they actually arent. Right now the only "members" are those who have signed up for a committee or to be a Big/Lil, until we get the full fledge membership drive going when EVERYONE will have to sign an app.

Internet greek comm. idea
sounds cool!
On a related note, in the united States they have founded an honorary boathouse calleed old Glory Boathouse and any current or previous member or coach of the US Natioanl Team is eligible. Lots of the peole that are or have been a part of the US NT have expressed support for such a move so I think this could work.. would help coordinate things as well!
Great Idea!

Emily, I was considering using the Gamma Chi MSN chat room for ritual. I know Greek Chat has a chat room, but isn't it available to the public? Even if not, any random person without a genuine interest in Gamma Chi could sign up on Greek Chat, go into the chat room, and learn all our secrets... (we are planning on introducing a few into the initiation ceremony) I suspect that with the MSN community, we'd have more control.
brooklineu, that's a really sweet idea.
Is anyone else interested in joining the ritual committee? We're pulling some things together, including a new member ceremony that we can hopefully schedule for some time this week. (theta sig agd, I PM'd you.)

Sotrue1920 has expressed an intrest, but has not gotten back with us about it ~~ i've noticed an intrest on the boards again for webpage help.
As for progress - mai & i are currently developing the basic graphics and such to create the webpage. As soon as there is a basic page up and running, the address will be posted on GC as it's own forum.
The basics of the page - the info in the original post of this thread will be included. that is really all the info we have to work with right now. any committe or chairperson who wishes to have info placed into the page, please email me ~ jetnica@aol.com ~ or pm me with this info.
That is the update from the website committee for may 1st
thanks everyone!

some thoughts...
Where would money for shirts or dues go?
could we have a blue shirt with gold letters on it?
How much for dues?
How about dividing chapters into either states or prov of home rez or by state where the current university students go to school?
What about the founding date? What date shall be chosen for that?
we could have as the mottoone of the jesuit sayings "Pursue excellence, nothing else is worth your time."
We could also network and while fraternities do often have road trips to other chapters within the organization, if we are in a place where a member of this virtual glo resides, why not stop by? Make that part of the trip... expand! Greek unity!
"it is generally thoguht that what is not seen does not exist" (i think i got it right)

Hi, the MSN chat is open to the public for now, I can simply change that with one click of the button. I think we should use the MSN, I will close it, but I need a list of people who should be there.
As for dues, I don't think we should be paying for anything right now, until we know for sure that this idea has goten off the ground. Honestly, I don't want to send money to strangers, and if for some reason Gamma Chi folds before it even gets started I don't want my money going to waste.

Oh I totally agree that it is a worthy cause. I never said it wasn't. In my case, I have my other dues to pay, and I have rent to pay, and I tuition to pay, etc, etc, so I don't want to be giving my money to something that may or may not take off. I certainly hope it does, but I think dues should be the last thing we have to worry about.
Before we start woring where we send money. We need to know how much dues are going to be, etc. I think in the case of dues, we need to have a budget, so we can see where exactly the money needs to go, and where it will go. I think the budget also needs to voted on, and it should only be voted on my members. Do we have a treasurer? Maybe once the comittees have posted their reports we can discuss the budget. Just a suggestion

Hi Everyone,
About the dues - I have a suggestion. A community service group I belong to has a "pay as you play" type of system. There are no dues to be a member. Though, if you want a t-shirt, you pay for it. Want to go to the annual trip to Disneyland? You pay for it. Want an embroidered club jacket? You pay for it. Club dinners? You guessed it! You pay or you don't eat!
Get the picture?
This works out really well for us and I think it may work for Gamma Chi as well. For example, the person in charge of GC t-shirts will take orders and accept the money for it. She or he will not order one for you if you don't send the money. This also helps for people who are on tight budgets and don't want to have mandatory dues. Of course, we do have to trust the person taking the money...then again, people send their money to strangers on eBay all the time.

I think that's a good idea. Although I guess we need to know what needs to be paid for? Is it just t-shirts and badges, etc?
