Chapter closed, all members involved will be expelled from SAE. This is a HUGE chapter, probably around 200 members if I recall correctly. The police had to surround the house to protect members who were moving out from violent protesters. The house has been vandalized and I'm sure as soon as the cops or security people are gone, vandals are going to do some serious damage.

Local SAE alumni have been very vocal that this is being handled.

I seriously hope that I'm misunderstanding what you said, because that reads like "whoo hoo! Somebody did something stupid and wiped out their decades old chapter, now we can get a sweet house out of it!"

To the main point, these guys are assholes and yes the whole chapter does deserve to go because that was some pretty basic "we have sung this song a million billion times and think about it as much as we think about breathing." I'm glad someone finally blew the whistle on this, and I hope he stays safe.

The story (above) says that the infamous song on the bus “was a fixture within a fraternity chapter at the University of Oklahoma, not an anomaly, the university reported Friday, and members first learned it at a gathering of the national fraternity four years ago.

‘It was learned by chapter members on a national leadership cruise sponsored by the national organization of Sigma Alpha Epsilon,’ the university said in a brief report on the results of its inquiry into the episode . . . . “

The story also reports that SAE fraternity leaders from “multiple chapters” knew the song, and used it on the the cruise.

Honestly, anyone who was on that bus, be it a member of SAE or their dates should all be completely and utterly ashamed for their behavior. Regardless of whether they were singing along or not, to sit by and allow this to happen and not speak up, is reprehensible. It really saddens me to know that racism is still active and evidently something to chant and cheer about these days. Does this generation of millennial not have any moral compass? It's obvious that they are dumb as dirt to think that in this day and age of the internet and viral videos that behavior like this would go unnoticed.

What a bunch of douche canoes.
