My mistaken bid list came from this tweet from a business:

Monograms Plus In Vestavia Hills, AL · 1,213 like this

OK - - we have the UA BID LIST! It is at Monograms Plus - - but the University of Alabama has asked us not to release it to the public - - that we can only use it for "business purposes" - - and since we don't want to anger U of A, you will have to come by the shop to look at the list. If anyone wants to privately message the owner, we can check the list to tell you results. Sorry! - - That's the best we can do!!

I say DISLIKE - if UA can pass out names to businesses, they can post the list for the public...(not to mention contributing alumni!).

What's your issue with the cups?

I mean, it's Bid Day, these are official looking daytime photos, and there are parents, advisors, and alumnae there. I doubt there's "contraband" in them.

You know that and I know that. But they just give off too much of a party look for people who see the pictures and aren't Greek. It just kind of feeds the whole wild sorority women stereotype.

But I'm over 40 and square. Your mileage may vary.

I bet Bama is watching Arkansas's expansion closely. If it goes well doing a double colony there, Bama would be one campus where it might be tried again. I'm happy for their continued growth and success, but these numbers are crazy!

And I stand by 86% shows the girls going through are maturing a lot and getting over the whole Old Row or nothing thing (not that the Old Row chapters aren't lovely... you know what I mean).

It's funny if you think about Greeks and real hippies back in the day. My school's Panhellenic lost about 70% of its chapters then.

Informal Outfits

There were representatives from the house corporation, moms of legacies and chapter advisors present. The women had been posing for pictures in front of the nearly completed new chapter house" jumping for joy". Dresses would not have been appropriate for the photos. You can access the images on their facebook page.

Last year they were attired in dresses as the other chapters were this year. Next fall they will have the opportunity to recruit members in the new chapter house.

The architectural firm which is in charge of building the new chapter house is the same one that designed and built the chapter houses at Univ. of Florida and Univ. of South Carolina.

Happy to report that one of our local girls pledged Gamma Phi Beta and she is thrilled - saw her photo and it made me smile from ear to ear!

We had three other local girls rushing at Bama (that we know of!):
one went DG, one went DZ,and no word yet on #4.....

Recruitment Theme

The chapter's recruitment theme was philanthropy. The chapter not only had the entire previous pledge class visit and tour St. Jude Hospital, but also they raised $113,000 to help cure cancer. It was especially meaningful as one of the active members is receiving cancer treatment at St. Jude Hospital.

I gotta say it: Those are ginormous NM classes - holy cow! (I'm coming from a Northeast campus where total was (and I believe still is) 80 and quota is normally 30ish.)

Congrats to all the Bama NMs!

As much as I hate those fugly baggy tank tops...wasn't it stinking hot alternating with torrential rain all during rush? And parties kept getting added and cancelled and rescheduled? After that ordeal, they'd be lucky to get me with clothes on, period.

I think TDS's complaint is not with dressing casually, more with the style that's in now.
