What are gender roles? Gender rolls are something that society has imposed. They are not an inherant part of our genetic makeup.

What would happen if every insurance company allowed you to provide benefits to whomever or you could let anyone visit you in a hospital?
What if all those benefits were provided to everyone?
Then what?
It's not an issue of benefits so I don't see why people keep bringing it up. If it were, it would be relatively easy to solve that one.

I think society is attempting to break down gender roles. For some groups of people, they almost think it is outdated to be a traditional male, and this is unfortunate. The traditional male role is one that has existed, in my faith, since Adam, and I think any attempts to weaken it are pathetic. There is a good book regarding this, not really controversial but it is faith based..."Wild At Heart," by John Eldridge. It gives his view that men were created to be leaders, to be explorers and adventurers, and think the current social trends attempt to dissuade them from doing such. I'm not saying that if you'd rather be involved in art than play football, you're doing something wrong. However, I think the whole push in metrosexual culture is bad for male society. Some people claim it is a good thing, as it emphasizes cleanliness and dressing well, but we've been doing that in the South for a century, while retaining our traditional male roles.

That's great, but it has nothing to do with gay marriage.

It would help if you quote the post you're responding to when you make your responses.
Just saying.

I would, but I don't know how. Don't teach me either, I don't wanna get too wrapped up in this posting thing. I prefer to remain ignorant. Also, I don't know what "bump" means.

Lol, then who are you to make a comment about literacy? There's a big button right under the post that says QUOTE

It's not really a "teach" thing. In your post, there are three things, your words and two buttons, one quotes (that would be the one that says "Quote"), the other quick replies.

You're the one who brought up gender roles back on page one:
I think kids today grow up in a culture where they may not fully act out their gender role
I'm not sure what you're getting at in this thread. You have not provided a valid non-religious argument in support of your position opposing gay marriage. Most of your comments are, at best, irrelevant in terms of the law and, at worst, bizarre. It seems like you're using this thread more as a soapbox for rambling about your views and demonstrating your alleged lack of knowlege of and aversion to gay sex.
You're going to law school, right? Let's say you're sitting in your Con Law I class and the professor asks you to argue against a proposed state law that would allow gay marriage. How do you respond?

I haven't read the book you mentioned, so I'm not commenting on that. I don't know where you're living, but I haven't seen much of a breakdown of gender roles. As far as I've heard, no one if forcing anyone to be metrosexual (well except for maybe a handful of very controlling girlfriends). Yeah, metrosexual may be trendy right now, but guys are still largely expected to be MANLY MEN. It's still not ok for a guy to cry. It's still not ok for a guy to tell his best friend that he loves him. Any kind of show of emotion (other than the emotions of anger, rage, etc.) is considered gay or effeminate. The gender role that's really changing is women. We're breaking down doors in all sorts of places. And I think a lot of guys feels threatened by that. Since there's few job industries and few sports/hobbies that women haven't entered (maybe not necessarily in your corner of the world), it's become harder for a guy to feel like a MANLY MAN. Also, a little bit of a tangent, but I think with women becoming more powerful/assertive/independent, men are confused about how to act. They have to be careful not to do anything that can be construed as sexual harrassment, whereas in previous generations, it was a "boy's club" at work and they could pull pranks, tell vulgar jokes, etc. I also think guys today are confused about how to act when they like a girl. Fifty years ago, the dating roles were much more defined. Boy asks girl out...simple. Nowadays, a guy going up to a girl to ask her out is risking a lot. She might tell him off, call him a pig/jerk/asshole/pervert, and humiliate him in front of everyone.

Well I agree with you and note, I'm not saying this is like a crisis in the male community or anything. I think it is probably is quite limited. Right before I made that post I had seen a queer eye commercial, and I got a little out of hand.

I don't think you're going to get an answer, valkyrie.
I do find it so amazing that no one can really scrap together a legal argument against gay marriage. We have such a wide variation of political views and opinions on this site, i'm very surprised that no one has even really given it a go.

I hadn't seen that until now. But if asked, I would say there is no reason to allow it. The bans are mostly for public reassurance. Marriage is male and female. There is no illegal discrimination here.

You guys keep saying that there is no legal argument against gay marriage but nobody has provided one for it anyway...
However, look at this- Apparently gays are calling straight people "breeders" I found it pretty funny
