I have to know what is up with your chapter at Northern Illinois. Is it a recolonization, or is TKE just getting there for the first time? I don't know any of the guys, but the chapter house is less than impressive.

They are recolonizing. That pobably explains the house. A restart with no cash on hand is lucky to even have a house.

TKE--Northern IL

The TKEs at Northern IL were chartered in the 50s and for a good many years were TOPS on the campus with a 100+
chapter. Like many greeks, they lost an advisor, the board dwindled, membership shrank, attention not given, chapter then
folded. This is the third time back. Powerful nationals have also
come on, competition harder, but TKE will prevail, and it is a tough job these days...TKE was arguably the over-all top greek
houses at DeKalb. Check old yearbooks and you'll see.

Well, none of the frat houses are that big there, but I would not have even known it was a fraternity if it hadn't been pointed out.

old teachers' colleges

The old teachers' colleges, normal schools, now many are called Universities....TKE, Sig Ep especially pioneered going in
to them. They had the old teachers' college fraternities, such as
Sigma Tau Gamma, Phi Sigma Epsilon (now PSK) Kappa Sigma Kappa (now TXi) men's and Tri-Sig, Theta Sigma Upsilon (now AGD), Pi Kappa Sigma (now Sigma Kappa),
Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Sigma Epsilon (now DZ), etc, and
they did not operate much housing-wise, did not have the clout
or the money as the private schools and big U's. Even today, the
old TC's, now with Sigma Chi, Pike, Beta, SAE, Phi Delt, etc, have little to brag about in terms of consistency, size, housing,
etc. Just a different type of student, not implying they were at
all inferior (I have a BS from Kansas State Teachers College,
now Emporia State U). Some of the groups have been there
90 years and have little to show...that's the way it is....Nothing
to surprise anyone who has studied the Greek movement.

Iowa State

Consistently one of TKE's finest, the Seminole local fraternity
was to become Epsilon chapter. Among the charter members
was Elmer Kaiser, later KASER, and he became a Teke Grand
Council member. His brother was a member. Son John was
killed in WWII, other son Don became TKE Grand Prytanis, and his sons all became TKEs at Epsilon and Alpha Zeta. A fourth
generation is now at Epsilon...Yes, the Seminoles, anotner part
of our history. I have told you all more about bluebirds than you
cared to know...but, anyway.....

Epsilon

I had the good fortune to have visited Epsilon in June of 1999, and worked with Prytanis Andrew Klein to get summer rush going. As I recall, by August they had 35 new puppies, all ready to move into that beautiful house.

Destined to win Top Teke Chapter - again! Never saw so many Top Teke Chapter Plaques since I visited Beta Psi at Arkansas State.

Great group at Epsilon.

T. Rod

Do any of you know the name of the first fourth generation TKE? That would be interesting to know.

4th generation Teke

I would guess it is one of Don Kaser's grandsons, and one of
them was in Epsilon last year, may still be.
The only other possible NATURAL fourth generation one would
be perhaps a son of Col. Rolland Truitt, gs of founder Truitt. I
do not even know if Rollie had any kids.
Hayes W. Thompson, Bucknell, had his gf Fisher initiated as I
recall, but I do not know about Hayes' fertility...
