WHen your dad is as powerful as mine, education doesnt mean a thing...But on a serious note, of course your school reputation means a lot. I dont know of anyone that would say equal creditials from Duke and UGA would be wieghed the same in the acceptance process because obviously Duke would take precedence. However, just because you go to duke instead of a school like UGA, doesnt mean youre accepted immediately. Another aspect to look at is where you want to practice law. If you want to practice in the south, some private school up north probably wont carry as well in Georgia, SC, Bama, or Mississippi as a school like Ole Miss, etc, just because of connections to local firms.

But more on point with the thread...Generals in Athens is the frattiest bar, far and away, no questions asked.

Thank you for the morning guffaw! May I send your powerful dad the bill for a new monitor? I laughed so hard at your quote that I snarfed my morning coffee all over the screen

ETA: This guy's a trip; where'd we find him? I need to get in touch with my sorority sister who graduated from Columbia Law and is a partner at a large firm in Raleigh to let her know she'd be better off having gone to BillyJoBob's School of Law Learnin' in Pig's Tail, South Carolina. Poor thing, she'll be heartbroken

A degree is not the same from both, however, the financial difference often isn't large. A much larger percentage at the elite law schools go into clerkships and teaching than do those at the large universities. I think there is more of a focus of becoming part of academia once you get into the ivy's than there is at good public law schools (where the goal is usually to join some mega firm making 6 figures at the start.) Sure, you're less likely to get a prestigious clerkship at a school like UGA, but i'll settle for a job working for Alston & Bird, Kilpatrick Stockton, or Jones Day.
I wouldn't necessarily say that; look at the rosters of firms like WilmerHale, McDermott Will & Emery, Holland & Knight, Burns Levinson, Mintz Levin, Bingham, Goodwin Procter, and any other number of big firms (including the local ones, like Brown Rudnick and Choate here in Boston). You're going to see an awful lot of Ivy leaguers on those rosters.

You can't generalize either way; yes, firms around here take students from BC and BU, but the Ivy schools are also well-represented.

Oh I'm sure that is accurate, but I think that has a lot to do with location as well. You'll see plenty of Ivy grads at Atlanta and Charlotte firms, but you'll probably see more Emory, Duke, UNC and UGA. Those who do go to Harvard or Yale often already have ties in the southeast, as many firms have some reservations about hires that require complete relocations. Hence, top local firms like King and Spalding will often focus efforts on schools that are less prestigious but nearby (Georgia State). At least this has been my understanding.

The frattiest bars (in the frattiest town, Oxford, MS) are The Levee (freshmen/sophomores), The Burgundy Room, and Downtown Grille...

In Gainesville, the bars regularly change management and names. There's four worthwhile in midtown (across the street from campus):

Balls- sketchy, dirty, awesome place people go to get wasted. It's cheap and they're easy on IDs.
Salty Dog- heavily greek, but only the 21+ crowd. A less dirty, less crowded version of Balls.
Copper Monkey- there are more geeds here than other places, but it's the only place in midtown that has ladies night. Bigger than the other two, but still satisfyingly creepy.
Swamp- this place is so greek-infested that I usually can't stand it. It's the biggest and nicest, but also the most expensive and they let freshman in until it gets too crowded. This is for people who are obsessed with greek life because they don't have one otherwise.

downtown is where all the clubs are. But there's always:

Lillians- Live music (classic rock), free popcorn, a little bit dirty, and very questionable. I love the old people who get wasted there. Karaoke Wednesdays are great.
Durty Nelly's- Similar to Lillian's, but cheaper, dirtier, and smaller.
Mother's- They have a "drink the wall" challenge for 34 different beers. If you finish all the mugs in two weeks you get your picture on the wall and some other free stuff. I heard that after they finish remodeling in a couple weeks, they'll have a whiskey wall.

The "frattiest" at the UofA is probably Grubs or On The Rocks, though the Piano Bar (Willy D's) is clutch on Thursdays.
