Those of us who have been on Greekchat for any length of time know that you're not complaining about being cut from the "top tier/beautiful model/rocket scientist/fraternity favorite/insert your tent talk hyperbole here chapter." It's because you didn't want the "struggling/smallest/fatty/ugly/lamest/insert your tent talk smash and bash here." The PNM was too good to be one of those.
You know what? Those were the women who wanted you; poor GPAs, lack of recs, poor social skills, out of state residence, body odor or other real or imagined issue. The truth is, the PNM rejected them and rejected the Bama Greek system. The Bama Greek system did not reject them.
Oh, and I am kind of astonished that anyone would think a 3.0 GPA coming out of high school equates with Phi Beta Kappa type expectations.

Zing!
But yeah, I think you are fundamentally correct.
I was a formal rush drop out and took it ridiculously hard, so I really do sympathize and recognize the experience, especially right now if you're living in a freshman women's dorm, is emotionally challenging.
But keep it in perspective: if you still want to be Greek you can get involved, meet all kinds of people, and re-rush. I think the "once cut, always cut" rule is a myth at a lot of chapters, particularly in the era of RFM when chapters have to release girls they actually liked a lot.
And you know what? You don't even have to be Greek. The majority of students aren't, and they still love the Tide and the Capstone. Dust yourself off and move forward rather than looking back at recruitment.

THIS.
I get that at these schools, rush is before school starts and it pretty much IS your life for a week and it comsumes you. So if things don't go your way, it's tough.
What I think people forget is that these are HUGE universities and once school starts, here comes the 80% of the population who could care less about recruitment and won't bat an eyelash at you getting cut (because they probably don't care).

Another thank you for this. I know I weighed in on the grade issue before, and maybe this is harsh, but if you're coming into college with below a 3.0 these days, I would think that not getting into a sorority is not your biggest issue. My parents weren't Greek, so maybe they didn't care as much, but they sent me to college to get a degree. They are glad that I enjoyed my sorority experience, but would not have allowed me to continue if I didn't have the grades.

I am certain since many of my comments were taken out of context here, you are referring to me, and none of those unkind words were spoken by me about any chapter on Alabama's campus. Forgive me if I am wrong, but I thought this was an open forum where people could ask questions and get some answers about something that admittedly, I have fallen way behind on since my college days 30 years ago.
There have been MANY women on this forum who have given educated, intelligent and kind answers to my questions, and for that I am most grateful. It has taken an experience that was heartbreaking for my daughter, and made it understandable to us......and after learning of some things, I personally said that my child needs to focus on her education, and that this probably worked out for the best. I think any good mother hurts when her child hurts, and would love to take it away, but as they begin their college careers, we have to learn to let go.
Your generalizations about a stuggling sorority are both rude and tasteless, and I in no way intended to generate this type of talk.
Thank you again to the great women who answered my questions with professionalism and class.
And for those of you who were concerned for my daughter, she is really doing well.......she spent a few days away, and is now ready to begin classes on Wednesday with a positive attitude!!!!

Don't take it personally. It's really not directed at you or your daughter; it's directed at a trend. If you'd been reading all the recent threads, you'd see how common what LL mentions is.

Awesome! I now can check the results of my RIF girls off from the Alabama group and move on to facebook, well, I hate to use the word "stalking" but call it what you will, UGA.
(Yeah, I really do want to know, and I want to know right away.)

Thanks to the creators of the Alabama Bid List for referring to Alpha Phi as "Alpha Pi."

Thank you, Lady Longhorn - you expressed what I've been thinking, but was unsure how to start that conversation. You did it well, and I appreciate it.

Anyone else notice that Alpha Phi's pledge class is almost entirely made up of Georgia Girls (or at least out of state girls)?
