When I tragically lost a Gamma Phi Beta sister at the age of 28 to colon cancer, it really helped when we established a scholarship in her name.
Perhaps the VT Kappas might consider establishing a fund to which her Kappa sisters and NPC cousins might contribute, to remember Caitlin and insure that her name and legacy continue . . .

Everyone in the DC metro area is really rallying around the Hokie Nation today...there are so many alumni and students from NoVA in the area. It's pretty touching.

I love that. It's so nice to see the good in people come out in the face of an event like this.

Has anyone heard from Alpha Omega Epsilon (professional eng sorority) or Sigma Phi Delta (professional eng fraternity)?? Since the majority of their members are engineering majors, I have been praying that their members are ok.

Supposedly Maxine Turner is a member of AOE. I was looking at the VT LJ group and one student had just taken her to formal on Friday. So sad

Pi Kappa Phi - Delta Alpha Chapter

Charlotte, N.C. – Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity was shocked to learn of the shooting earlier today on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, VA. The school is home to the fraternity’s Delta Alpha chapter. Several alumni brothers are also members of the university’s faculty and staff. At this time and to the best of our knowledge, no members of the fraternity are believed to have been harmed in the incident, which to date has claimed the lives of over 30 students and members of the Virginia Tech community. Our hearts and prayers go out to our members who have lost friends in this terrible incident and to the victims and their families.

yes, i think the nytimes blog roundup about the shootings had an entry from one student saying he'd taken a girl from AOE to their formal on friday night and that nobody had heard from her yet.

the dean of the college at my school sent this out to the entire campus:

Dear All,

As we continue to receive news about the tragic moments at Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University on Monday, we would like to remind members of the
Wesleyan community of our support services in the Dean's Office. Specifically, the
Office of Behavioral Health Services for Students is available 24 hours a day by
contacting ext. 2470 during the day, or ext. 2910 after business hours. In addition,
please contact any of us in the Dean's Office if we can provide assistance or
support.

Today at 2 pm the community at Virginia Tech will come together to mourn and honor
the lives of the students and professors who were victims of yesterday's violence on
that campus. In solidarity, the college bells will ring just before 2 pm, and we ask
you to observe a moment of silence and reflection.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Virginia Tech community during this
terrible time.
----

what's happening on other campuses, out of curiosity? it is nice to see people come together over this and i'm glad my school is doing something in solidarity. seeing the flags at halfmast really got to me.

I'm really sorry to hear about that. My thoughts and prayers got out to VT, especially the Greek community, and the families and friends of those who are slain.

Mysticchik,

In response to your question, Wake Forest is doing something.

Hatch statement on VT tragedy
President Nathan O. Hatch has expressed condolences to the Virginia Tech community after Monday's tragic events. "From the Wake Forest University community, I send to you, your students, your colleagues, and the families of today's victims our profound sympathy."

Crisis plan review

Monday's events at Virginia Tech have prompted Wake Forest officials to review the campus security plan. In addition, the University has compiled security-related questions and answers for the campus community.

Memorial service

An interfaith memorial service to remember the victims and families of Monday's Virginia Tech shootings will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Wait Chapel. The chapel will open at 6 p.m., when memorial books will be available for attendees to record condolences. The books will be delivered to Virginia Tech.

A memorial service is going to be held at FSU tomorrow night on Landis Green.

My prayers go out to all the friends and family of the victims.

There's a picture in the link of the ex-girlfriend that crazy shot first in the dorm. Looking at her pic and the pics up of crazy, she was way out of his league. Another weird link is that crazy went to the same high school with two of his victims in the engineering blg. They were freshmen while he was a senior, so he may not have known them at the time.

Wow, that kind of a comment just seems...uncalled for. By that I mean I think it's odd that your first reaction after reading about the shooter's primary target was to comment about their looks.

Article headline:

Quote:
THIS is the face of the girl who may have sparked the worst school shooting in US history.

That is totally uncalled for as well. She is absolutly not to blame for any of this, and I think that's exactly what that headline implies.
