I'm not trying to "jump on her"...that's never something I would try to do. But I think it's completely inappropriate to tell someone that there are always other sororities. That's way out of line...

Maybe she just hasn't found her match yet...it's hard to tell during the fakeness and craziness of recruitment what the RIGHT chapter really is for each girl. I know some girls always get blinded by what everyone else thinks they want and end up ranking certain chapters high for their status only, not how happy they think they would be there. And I am NOT saying that that's what liltrixx did, but a LOT of girls do this. It's VERY difficult to keep an open mind during recruitment as I'm sure you all know. At UCF, many of the chapters do not have houses, so already many PNMs don't even really consider these chapters.

I love the women that I have met during recruitment and am still planning on going to Anchor Splash next weekend (though I don't know how much more rejection I can take..(ps they are not COB'ing at this time from what I've heard but its a time to meet the sisters)) and see how it goes.
OMG if anyone tells you AI is the same thing, IGNORE THEM. Or punch them in the face. You have like an infinitely better chance of getting into a sorority as an undergraduate... AI is very, very rare for most groups.

My heart breaks for you, btw. I know how it feels to want something that badly... If you feel up to it, go to Anchorsplash but don't feel like you HAVE to in order to meet girls. If you decide to try COB again in the future, there will definitely be other Greek events where you can meet sisters, so don't force yourself to go if it's going to be painful for you. Have fun tonight with your friends and be safe! LOL

liltrixx I am sorry COB did not work out. I hope you enjoy the rest of the school year, no matter what you decide to do!

Just live your life and have a fun year at UCF. The Greek Life aspect of UCF is very open and everybody hangs out with everybody, Greek and non-greek. You'll be a part of it unless you make a conscious effort not to.

ETA: Don't even think about AI. You're 19 years old and you have 3-4 years of college ahead of you. Live for today!

Hey... here are my thoughts...

1. Things happen when they are suppose to... please remember this. There are MANY MANY MANY more opportunites for you to join a group.

2. Some groups don't advertise COB/COR events... they just happen. When your at a football game or out for ice cream or even shopping... this is a great way to see who you really are when the spot light of recruitment is off.

So go... have fun. Be yourself. And don't stress about joining right now. Just be open to every group because groups are like husbands... you won't find the one for you... unless you are willing to date the one you never imagined you would. Does this make sense to anyone else?

I know it's hard hearing from sorority girls that not joining a sorority isn't the end of the world. How would we know?

If it's any consolation, the social activities at UCF are endless. I had tons of friends at UCF who were not in a GLO and they were still able to make lasting, lifetime friendships. A sorority might be a lifetime but it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be friends with these women for a lifetime. You get a job, you get married, you move away, etc. As the years go on, you lose touch with the girls in your chapter. Wanna know how many chapter sisters I still talk to? Four. And that's out of almost 200 girls. My best friends are members of other UCF sororities or weren't in a sorority at all. I met them through other UCF activities or through mutual friends (except for 2 of them who I've known since dark ages).

There is life outside of Greek Park Drive. You just need to find your niche.

Amen to that! Out of my 200, I have a bunch of ADPi's from my chapter and ADPi friends I have met over the years on my Christmas card list, but probably about 3-4 chapter sisters whom I consider my BFF's. Aside from those ADPi sisters, my best friends in this world are a UCF KD, Chi-O and DDD; and a "GDI" at Haaaarvard. (And no, it's not GeekyPenguin!)

SIPing: a.k.a "Suiciding"

Listing only one sorority on your bid card after pref night.

The technical term I believe is "Single Intentional Preferentials" (not sure on the last word), but it is the new word for suiciding (putting only one chapter down on your pref card and if given that chapter you are bound to it for one year if not iniated). Please someone correct me if I'm wrong....

Thanks I understood suicide as a concept for recruitment but the acronym SIP threw me for a loop.

Thanks liltrixx for the acronym breakdown.

Yeah, I know it's the "single something prefsomething" so I just think "suicide"

One of my favorite DG sisters COBed 3 times before getting a bid. She somehow kept slipping through the cracks and then we realized we were stupid for not bidding her sooner...sometimes it's hard to see through the fog of everything.
