this was my first convention so i dont have anything to compare it to, but it was quite a lovely experience. Kudos to the Phoenix alumnae association...we have a very high bar to get to here in Boston!!!!
I think that Mrs. Goddard gave a wonderful address in her opening remarks at the first business meeting and she did say to me that it would be published in the adelphean so I encourage everyone to read it.
Also, the resort was trully wonderful. I was incredibly impressed with the level of service and the food was really amazing-with 500 + people I was pretty much expecting convention food and boy, was I wrong!
I tried in vain to win the gift mart drawing each night by purchasing way too much, but i was not successful...bummer- but gift mart had ridiculously cute things...luckily I have passed the point of fitting into "collegian" size clothes so I could only some things...

I was there Tuesday through Sunday and had a wonderful time! It was great to be around so many sisters and in such a beautiful location, regardless of the heat.
Everyone should experience Convention at least once. Even though I attended the 150th, it was only part-time and I did not realize the full experience I was missing out on.
I got to meet everyone on Grand Council (2003-05 and 2005-07) and several District Officers. (I have to say that a few of us in Denver had lunch with Kathryn Goddard and Elise Freeman last year while they were in town for a conference. OMG! It was like meeting the US President himself, even better.) It was good to run in to the collegiates representing my chapter, as well, not to mention other ADPis.

I was one of about 6 "experienced" advisors who were privileged to meet with Mrs. Goddard at Distict III DLC this year. I know *just * what you mean!!
I am SO THRILLED to hear that Anne Charnock was elected to GC!!! Voting for her was one of my main concerns about not getting to Convention! She is the District III Team Director... Hmmm... I can't wait to hear about all the CHANGES we'll have in this District as a result!

I know what you mean, FnF! While I didn't get to spend *too* much time with them at DLC this year, Rosalyn Doze Williams and Lorraine Alderman Testa are two WONDERFUl women and I'm so excited to have them on GC for the next two years!
District 6 is going to have a few new faces at the next DLC!
(GC pictures will hopefully be up tomorrow from me - I'm getting my film developed tomorrow morning, and I'll post ASAP!)

I only wish Alabama (Eta) had won the Golden Lion, but we're still climbing that ladder. We were excited and honored to win the Excellence Award this year. 2009 Grand Convention is our goal for the GL. Lot's of work ahead of us for the next 4 years to achieve that.
I'm sorry I didn't get the opportunity to meet any of you, at least not that I was aware of. I made a list of those who said they would be attending and I don't think I had the privellege of meeting any of you. I didn't have access to a computer so didn't know about the photo/meeting time. It wasn't until Sunday that I realized there was an internet cafe at the resort and it was closed.
But I can "identify" myself to any of those who were in the 2nd business meeting. I was the one who was asking about the difference between House Corps and Chapters billing fees. (FYI - I still don't get Linda Abelard's explanation, but I finally just gave up. I started to wonder if I was being dense and I didn't want to waste any more of the delegation's time. But several others came up to me afterwards in the same boat. Oh well, it's a mute point now since neither Eta or our House Corp will be participating. We've already got an accounting agency that handles all our billing and it is cheaper for us to stay with them.)
As usual I met some of the most interesting women. It's amazing what a small ADPi world we have. First I was waiting for the shuttle at the airport with a few other sisters. Turned out one of those women was the Wichita, KS Alumnae Assoc. Pres and she was an Eta. She's a lovely woman and truly enjoyed meeting the other Etas. She even sat with all of us for lunch one day. We even talked her into coming home to Tuscaloosa in two years for our 100th anniversary.
Second and this one kind of freaked me out at first. A woman came up to me and said she knew me. She proceeded to call me by my maiden name, knew what year I had initiated and said I hadn't changed much. So I'm racking my brain thinking she must have been at Sigma (University of Illinois) while I was there. Then she went on to say where I graduated from high school, what church my family had attended and the neighborhood I grew up in. Now I know there was only 1 other girl from my hometown at Sigma when I was there and this was not her. Turned out she had graduated from high school with my younger brother and she pledged the year after I left. She's now the Chapter Advisor there and had often looked at my picture on the old composites. As I said, I was at a complete loss for a while. I ended up joining the Sigma group for lunch that day and had a great time.
My two collegians really enjoyed being there. They were so excited about meeting Grand Council (both old and new), former Grand Presidents, winning awards, and just everything about it. But what struck me the most was how surprised they were to discover that ADPi is a democracy. It really impressed them and they better understood how and why things operate on the Chapter level as well. (This is not the place to go into details of what transpired, but those of you who were present know what I'm referring to.)
All in all, it was another fabulous Grand Convention. To any of you who have never attended one, I highly recommend it. It's fun and fascinating. To all of you who will be attending VLS next June, hopefully I'll be able to meet you then at Calloway Gardens, GA.

Zillini - oops - sorry about that!! I actually wasn't in the room for the announcement - was outside taking Collumnae pictures. So my information came from a "table neighbor." I think I specifically asked if Eta received the Golden Lion and she said yes - but she was pretty excited since her chapter had won! Gamma Phi is in the same boat you are - shooting for 2009 for GL.
I guess I could identify myself as well. I was a bit vocal in the first business meeting on the same topic as Zillini. I guess you could say I was the one who "brought the topic up." I also had lots of people coming up to me afterward in the same situation, so I could have possibly met some of you! And Zillini, just in case you still wanted that clarification, I can actually provide it having had the in-depth discussion of the matter with Grand Council during the second business meeting. Just PM if you wish....
Looking forward to Callaway! We'll be able to send more than one advisor since it is within a reasonable driving distance!

Okay, here's some pictures that I took - hopefully they'll come out (and if they're too large, someone please let me know how to reduce them in size - I'm just following the same procedure from the Internet Scavenger Hunt thread!)
Here's ForeverDiamond & ASUADPi at Opening Banquet:
Here's me and ForeverDiamond at Opening Banquet:
Here's EXiADPi, polarpi, and HBADPi at the Diamond Awards Banquet:
And last, but not least, THE GC PICTURE:
From left to right (PM me if you'd like your name taken out of the list): suzannek, ASUADPi, scho5148, polarpi, WLFEO, EXiADPi, and the ACRD for District 6 (who participates on Virtual Violets, but hasn't registered with GC as of yet )

Thanks for posting the pictures jennie! Sorry I missed the GC picture ladies, the ZA president and I decided to take a nap before dinner and overslept so we had about 40 minutes to throw ourselves together. It was nice to meet those of you that I did get to meet, I had a blast!
