Somebody on another board described those shirts as ghettry. But I was e-mailing a former chapter soror of mine, and she's actually seen these shirts on people back East!

i also use the "words" Ghettois and Ghettup to describe an outfit. whichever word you use, it'll fit this form of 'nalia. i think a soror who wears this should be up for suspension...this kind of tackiness should be against our Bylaws

Re: Speaking of inappropriate paraphernalia...
When I was in college, I remember a freshman girl wearing a shirt that said "I am a Future AKA." I went to Spelman, so needless to say there should have been NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER FOR HER TO WALK UP IN THE CAFE WEARING THAT SHIRT. Although, I was not a soror yet, I knew better than to do something like that.

I can't think of the words (appropriate for a public forum and my lady-like manner) that could even come CLOSE to expressing my disapproval of that. But check THIS out:

At the convention in Atlanta, I saw a Soror who had the symbols on her big toes. I thought it was TACKY to say the least. It was a close third after the Soror who had the brand on her thigh and the Soror who had the tattoo on her breast with the head of an elephant wrapped around the Sigma and the butt of the elephant poking through the Theta.
A HOT MESS!

IMO . . . tacky. Of course anything other than French tips or American manicures is too over-the-top for me.

Not to say that it is right.....But mothers DO buy those shirts for their GROWN daughters AND expect for them to wear them...I've seen it happen
However, I read a few posts back about how there is some pressure to join a specific org. by parents who are in specific orgs.. I can honestly say there is a reasonable amount of disappointment (including some parents) by children of fellow organizations. Because of this, they often feel hurt, "cheated", "betrayed, etc. which can lead to depression. Should they be depressed , probably not...But these circumstances are not unusual especially when you come from a family of "over-achievers", "big shots", etc.... just something to think about

Girl, you KNOW I remember that. She also wore a shirt from her AKA cotillion. I was horrified.
