Singer/actress Vanessa Williams has filed for divorce from L.A. Lakers star Rick Fox. The couple married in 1999, and they have a 4 year old daughter. Vanessa, 41, filed for divorce from the 34 year old basketball star after published photos came out showing him cheating. A couple of weeks ago I talked abut there being trouble in paradise, and now it’s confirmed. Vanessa refused to participate with the other wives of the Lakers in a feature for USA Today and stories were starting to circulate about his cheating. Rick is also known as “Foxy,” and he has been cheating on Vanessa for a while. Sources say the marriage has been in trouble for the past two years. Vanessa preferred to stay on the East Coast while he played ball on the West Coast. Vanessa has three older children from a previous marriage and Rick has a son from a previous relationship. Vanessa has known about his cheating for a while and turned a blind eye. She would always deny it, but now the truth and the pictures are out. In one photo was Rick was obviously drunk as he tongue kissed a young woman who looked a mess. Why would he risk his marriage? Why would you cheat on Vanessa Williams with an ugly woman? Why would you cheat at all?
Has Halle Berry found love on her new movie set? Halle is currently filming the Oprah Winfrey produced movie Their Eyes Were Watching God, and she is growing very close to actor Michael Ealy. Michael played “Pretty Ricky” in the Barbershop movies. He was the cutie with the cornrows and the light green eyes. Halle likes the pretty boys and Michael is fine. Is Halle moving on with her life since she’s divorcing singer Eric Benet? Sources on the set sat Halle is very protective of the younger Michael and stays by his side.
Congratulations to Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker! They’re engaged to be married. Boris and Nicole are best known as “Terri” and “Damon” from the Showtime series Soul Food. They have been dating for awhile and Boris proposed to her in his birth home of Germany. A wedding is planned for next spring, and this fall you can catch Boris and Nicole in their new UPN show Second Time Around. The show is about a divorced couple who decide to remarry each other. The show will air on Monday nights at 9:30pm.
What did Ray Charles leave in his will? He left behind a fortune of $40 million and he took care of his loved ones. Ray left behind 11 kids and they each got a million dollars. Ray’s longtime companion was left with millions and his girlfriends (the “side jawns”) were left with money and gifts. Ray knew his time was near and he wanted everyone to be happy. The legendary entertainer died a couple of weeks ago and this October his story is coming to the big screen. Jamie Foxx will be starring in the movie Unchain My Heart.
What’s going on with rapper DMX? Last week he was arrested at Kennedy Airport in New York because he trying to steal a car. When approached by authorities, he told them he was a federal agent. When the story broke, a lot of people were wondering what was going on and why would he do this? The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, is hooked on crack cocaine and he is having problems with his addiction.
TV Host Pat O’Brien has left the Entertainment Show Access Hollywood for a new spin-off from Entertainment Tonight called The Insider. A lot of people were shocked by this move and he left the show in a fury. Apparently Pat did not get along with one of his co-workers Shaun Robinson. Pat sent Shaun an angry e-mail to let her know how he felt. He claims Shaun would talk to him like she was a gang member. (Translation she probably had to cuss him out like a sistah). He accused Shaun of being needy, demanding, sad and insecure. He claimed no one liked her and she was always playing the race card. Shaun has had no comment on his statements, but Pat has publicly apologized for his actions regarding the hateful email.
Brandy is back and she wants everyone to know she’s grownup now that she’s been married, had a baby and gone through a divorce. Her new album, Afrodisiac, is out in stores.
Britney Spears is getting married again. Earlier this year she shocked everyone when she married an old school friend and divorced him within 48 hours. This time around Britney is marrying a man who has a whole lot of baby momma drama. Kevin Federline was one of Britney’s background dancers and now he’s set to be Britney’s second husband. Kevin resembles Britney’s “ex,” Justin Timberlake. Kevin is also going to be a dad any day now with his ex-girlfriend, actress Shar Jackson. Shar played “Neicy” on Moesha is expecting their second child soon. They are also the parents of a two year old. Shar is very upset about the upcoming wedding and she has a warning for Britney…”Get ready to pay child support and be a stepmom.” Is Britney thinking clearly? She is worth $100 million and I’m sure her parents are not happy about this relationship. Is Kevin looking for a “sugar momma?” Is Britney being used? Will Shar get paid now that she’s been dumped by this man? She has two babies she has to raise, and I’m sure he is going to get the money from Britney. Will Britney’s mom, Lynne, who put a stop to her first marriage, step in this time and save her daughter’s fortune? The wedding is set for November.
Mom knows best and Carol Brown, Bobby’s mom, is ready to tell all. Bobby may be working on a new reality show, but Carol Brown says no one can tell the story of Bobby Brown better than she can. Carol is planning a write a tell all book that will talk about Bobby’s start in New Edition, his solo career, marriage to Whitney Houston, the baby mommas and the drugs. Carol Brown says she is going to tell everything the real story of Bobby Brown.
The remaining members of TLC, Chile and T-Boz, are in talks with the Fox network for a reality show that will help them find a replacement for the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez. The show will feature them auditioning for a new member for the group. When “Left Eye” died they swore they would never replace her and the group was over, but I guess with their personal drama, that statement went out the window. Chili had a highly publicized breakup with Usher and T-Boz is divorcing her husband rapper Mack 10 after years of cheating and abuse.
Anita Baker is back! Anita’s new song is called “You’re My Everything.” The song is the first single from her forthcoming album, My Everything. The album comes out on September 7th, and the nine-track CD features a duet with Babyface.
Jill Scott is going on a mini buzz tour. Her new album, Beautifully Human, arrives in stores August 31st. Jill is doing a short show at the TLA, 3rd & South Streets on July 30th. She has a new song out called “Golden.”

Stevie Wonder’s new album, A Time to Love, which comes out at the end of July and he is doing a concert for Good Morning America on the 29th. Usher is going to be on Good Morning America on the 30th, and newcomer Ricky Fante will be on Good Morning America on July 14th. Ricky sings the song “It Ain’t Easy.” This guy is fine. He’s also getting into acting. He’s got a cameo in the Halle Berry television movie, Their Eyes Were Watching God.
Get ready for the 35th anniversary of the Jackson Five’s first recordings. On July 20th, a new boxed set of their hits is coming out called The Jackson Five Story. All the hits from “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” “I Want You Back,” “I’ll Be There,” “Rockin’ Robin,” to “Enjoy Yourself” and “Shake Your Body” will be included.
