A sad day.....

I received this in an email to my Alumnae Club's Yahoo group today. The original email was from a past Grand Council Secretary who is now on the Alpha Beta House Association Board.

Dear Sisters,

I arrived home from our meeting to receive notification that Phebe Morse
Swinehart, a dedicated Alpha Beta member of AGD entered Chapter Grand on
April 2. For those of you who have not had the privilege of meeting Phebe
here is some info.

1. Phebe was 100 years old last October
2. Phebe's room at the Chapter House was named in her honor.
3. She serve on Grand Council, I think in the '60's
4. She worked and fought for Alpha Beta's survival in the early 70's.
5. She has two AGD daughters and one AGD Grandaughter
Her oldest daughter, Phebe Nan was President of AB in 1954-55.
Judy was initiated at Sigma (U. of ILL.). I do not remember the
granddaughter's chapter.
6. Phebe was one of the three Alpha Beta International Officers who
set up the Foundation Scholarship for Alpha Beta Chapter
7. Phebe attended the 100th Anniversary Convention and received
a well deserved standing ovations from hundreds of sisters
8. She became very dear to my heart when I learned she had signed
my recommendation for membership in AGD. Back in my day, it was
almost a MUST to have a recommendation - and the lady did not
even know me. So, I guess one might say she got me started toward
my 50 years as an AGD, and my 47 years of service in the Fraternity.

May Phebe rest in peace with our Founders in heaven. Can you imagine meeting the Pope at the Pearly Gates? It must have been a special day, reserved for special people to enter the Kingdom of God.

ETA: As I reflect on how many special Alpha Gams have entered Chapter Grand over the past year, it serves as a call for all of us to follow in their footsteps, living the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose, and carrying on as they would have.
