Okay, I have a different DVR now, but I had a tivo for 4yrs.
You don't need a phone line. If you have cable internet you can use that to connect with. You just need a converter. You can get them for varying prices, but your absolute best bet is from ebay because I see them sell for like $10-15 there all the time.
I actually suggest a DVR from say a local cable company over Tivo though. Tivo only lets you record one program at a time, and most other DVR's let you record two. And the price is the same, so why not get more for your money.
