I don't know what I believe as to whether a promiscuous person (of either sex) could settle down with a single long-term partner. I'd say it's unlikely... it would have to be the right people at the right time.

I myself would be very wary of entering into a possible long-term monogamous relationship with a man known for his promiscuity. All that means is that I'm not the right woman to settle down with a man who's had 100+ partners.

I agree that it's a bad idea to get married simply to have a child. Marriage is about more than children.

Slight hijack: HotDamnImAPhiMu's post back on page 1 drives home an important lesson. If you're engaging in promiscuous sex, or even not-so-promiscuous sex, USE A CONDOM. A man never knows if a woman is lying about being on the pill. The pill has a certain failure rate. Plus, the pill and most other BC methods offer no protection against sexually transmitted diseases.
