It has everything to do with it.
The ladies on your campus are a small percentage of the TOTAL membership. If this organization is not in your heart, I sense that it isn't since you bothered to raise this issue, that is fine...do you.
But if it is in your heart, there is no reason why you can't wait until later on to pursue membership.
I understand we live in the microwave age where everything is achieved quickly and with ease. God forbid you have to sweat or you encounter people who piss you off along the way.
